Driving after vasectomy

I feel daft posting this but I've googled and can't find a definite yes or no answer.

DH about to request to be referred for a vasectomy. Long waiting list but I can't drive and probably still won't be able to drive by the time he has the procedure done. We don't have family nearby who can give a lift home.

Can someone have a vasectomy and drive themselves home? These are the sorts of things I worry about months in advance 🙃😅

my DH had one last week, no driving for a few days after. He can get a taxi though?

i picks up my DH from his appointment but he would have been fine to drive and definitely drove the next day

It's been a long day; I've been stressing about this for at least an hour because I forgot taxis exist 🙃

Problem solved! 😅 Thank you, and hope your DH is recovering well!

haha I have those days.
yeah he’s recovered just fine. A bit tender on day 1 and exhausted (I think from the stress and nervousness before hand). Think he said it was less than 30 mins in a clinic room in big GP practise. He was fine after a few days except when our wild 3 year old dived onto him/dropped things on his lap/lifted heavy car seat in and out car. Back on his push bike for 12 mile round trip to work from tomorrow just shy of 3 weeks post op

It's a gamble driving immediately after a versectomy, and would your husband have the balls to?

I once knew a teacher who drove himself to work the afternoon after his morning op. Madness

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/11/2025 20:47

My DH didn’t drive for a day or so after his vasectomy. He probably would have been fine sooner but didn’t want to risk anything.

SerendipityDiamond · 10/11/2025 20:52

Definitely not - we had to head straight to the chemist for strong painkillers, avoiding pot holes and speed bumps.

summerlovingvibes · 10/11/2025 20:52

They advise not to drive for 24 hours so I think he wouldn't be covered by insurance if he did and something went wrong.
Taxi for him!
DH had one a few months back. He survived... just about.

Blackbirdflyintothelight · 10/11/2025 20:53

My DH had one a couple of months ago and drove himself home no issue.

DH drove himself home.
