Last few nights I’ve been bitten by mosquitoes. Managed to get through the summer without a problem.
anyone else having this problem? Can’t sleep with itching. 🙈

They breed in standing water is your house in a wet area?

Its very mild in my area rn

redastherose · 10/11/2025 23:11

Are you sure it’s mozzies, I’ve only been bitten that badly when on holiday when the Villa had bedbugs.

JDM625 · 10/11/2025 23:14

Are you in the UK OP? Are your bedroom windows open? Any standing water around the house- base of pots, buckets etc?

I agree, have you tried an anti histamine? Anyone else getting bitten? Have you actually seen mosquitoes? Can you take a pic of the bites?

For the itching, Tiger Balm works well (but it's quite oily) or a paste of some baking soda and water.

Maddy70 · 11/11/2025 03:36

You need a repellent containing deet

DarkForces · 11/11/2025 03:51

Agree with others. You need a citronella or deet spray to stop the biting, antihistamine tablets and hydrocortisone cream to stop the itching. I've not tried tiger balm but heard good things. It's bloody awful to be itching but you'll be able to get help from a local pharmacy

TemuTrinny · 11/11/2025 08:51

I would have thought it’s unlikely to be mosquitoes if you are getting numerous bites. I’d be more worried about bed bugs.

mixedcereal · 11/11/2025 08:58

theres definitely still mosquitoes about.
mosquitoes and bed bug bite are very different

bingobanjo · 11/11/2025 09:15

Just chiming in to say ignore everyone saying it can’t be mosquitos, it is, and we have the same issue this time of year. It’s not actually that cold, add rain that sits underneath the windows and voila.

No advice, just backing you as I’ve spent years debating it being bed bugs, fleas, mites, whatever. It’s mosquitos, and they should die off soon until about spring.

The only solution we’ve come up with is moving 😀

mazedasamarchhare · 11/11/2025 09:40

i got ‘attacked’ by mozzies on Sunday evening, it’s been incredibly mild for this time of year, the warmth and peeing rain, meant the bitey little beggers where going large with their dining out! Op you can now buy a very good, very mild over the counter steroid cream, but I can’t remember what it’s called! Boots and Superdrug both supply it.

thing47 · 11/11/2025 13:57

Different varieties of mozzies bite at different times of the day or night so perfectly possible for some people to be getting bitten in the evenings and others during the night. Unfortunately our warming climate is likely to bring more unpleasant diseases to our shores in the next few years...

@Grrrpredictivetex DD2 recommends the Jungle Formula brand if you don't object to deet, or Incognito if you prefer something more natural/environmentally friendly.

Grrrpredictivetex · 11/11/2025 14:39

thanks everyone. Yes in UK and no it’s not bed bugs, hubby not got a single bite!
I would say 100% mozzies.
I was always a target due to liking perfume and alcohol 😀. Just so mild where we are with torrential rain every now and then.
have taken an antihistamine and it’s definitely helped.
Have checked my bed 😀. I sleep with the window open no matter what and sleep with leg hanging out when it’s hot. They’ve had a bloody feast.

Me, on Sunday evening, and then again this morning. Bastards. My husband, as ever, isn’t bitten.

thing47 · 11/11/2025 15:03

As my darling daughter has explained, it can be a menopausal issue too! They never used to be particularly interested in me until I hit a certain time in my life and now they bloody love me and leave everyone else in the family alone. Fuckers

JDM625 · 11/11/2025 15:12

OP- you said you sleep with the window open. Get those stick on fly screen things to stop them getting inside.

I’m also getting bitten alive at the moment. It’s horrendous. Looking forward to the weather cooling so the little f@ckers all die off or hibernate or whatever.

something2say · 12/11/2025 19:42

FYI if anyone is interested, try Tiger Balm for itching. Literally stick it on the minute you realise you have a bite, and it will go cold and stop itching, and reapply every time you then feel it afterwards. A Thai woman used it on me when I was covered in bites while travelling and I have never gone back.
