Monday motivation for procrastinators

Do any fellow procrastinators, possible ADHDers want some company today as you tackle a pile of doom or make a phone call you’ve put off for 12 months?

I’m in headless chicken mode. Wandering around with lots to do, but a lack of ability to start.

Job 1 is making myself go to the post office. I’m setting off now because I’ve told the internet I am.

What are you putting off? Will today be the day?

I’ve just sent a text I’ve been putting off for 6 months, Yay me.

On to the next job, no sitting or scrolling allowed until 12pm.

I only got 4 hours sleep last night so today may be a write off for me, but I want to go to my local garden centre to get two plain Christmas wreaths ready to decorate for Christmas. I also need to put away all the bowls, books, etc from baking yesterday.

Fictionalfox · 10/11/2025 12:06

You’ve got this @Lallybroch sorry your sleep was so bad. Just think how good you’ll feel if you get your jobs done despite the sleeplessness.

Another small job done for me, checking some bank things and adding a few things up.

Also the person I texted has responded and all the anxiety I’ve had for months was for nothing. I’m a dick head for putting it off.

Recipe books and baking bowl put away, craft items put back in my craft room (bonus) and order placed with Amazon for Christmas Wreaths. I was diagnosed earlier this year at the age of 62. It made sense of a lot of things but I find procrastination really is a problem.

Fictionalfox · 10/11/2025 12:40

@Lallybroch well done that’s great. Having a craft room sounds amazing.

Spent the afternoon working, doing a job I hate and usually leave until the last minute. This is the earliest I have ever done it. Today has been a good day.

Congratulations! As an olympic-standard procrastinator I sympathise.

My achievements today include opening the door to a courier from "World of Books - Sell Your Books" and handing over a cardboard box full of books. I am proud. (The company were recommended to me on another MN thread.)

Tomorrow I will scan more books and go and adopt some cardboard wineboxes from my nearest supermarket. Good luck, all.

I have been super productive today but only because I am going away on Sunday for a month and I have absolutely no choice now. Ooops

WinterIng2025 · 10/11/2025 17:39

I need this. I have a form to send back and some work that I have to redo.

Obvs I've got as far as having a bunch of books collected. Whether I get the promised money is something I'll report back on the original OP's thread. But, frankly, anyone who turns up at my door and takes away a box of books gets my vote.

@CrystalSingerFan well done, amazing work 👏🏻

@stayathomegardener there is nothing like last minute pressure to push you over the finish line. Good luck. Is it too outing to ask where you’re going?

@WinterIng2025 good luck, hope it makes it into the ‘done’ list.

Barbados for two weeks, then a tall ship down via Columbia and the Panama Canal to Panama City.

Ridiculously excited for the canal.

If that doesn’t motivate me nothing will.

Perhaps best not to start a book side quest before I go.

Oooh yeh I love World of Books.

Download the app
Click on scan - then point it at the barcode on any unwanted books
If it says it wants it then bingo – might be 10p, might be 90p
When you have £5 or a certain number you pack them in a box (we have many such)
Pad it out with Amazon paper packaging (we have lots)
Tape it up and next time you are passing, drop it in at an InPost locker
A few days later you get a fiver (or more!) into your bank Ac

Sometimes it rejects books and then a fortnight later accepts them
