Room allocation

A slightly hypothetical situation because it depends on me actually doing something about it all and I may decide to leave as is, but;

Adult DS1 is about to move out, to live with GF. I hope they'll be happy ever after, but you never know. Also, they'll be living several hours away so if they're to visit I'll need space for them to stay. He currently has bedroom 2 which as a small double bed.

Adult DS2 shows no signs of leaving ever. He's no bother and pays his way. He has bedroom 3 , which is a decent sized single.

I have the master and the box room which I use as a study for wfh.

DS2 also uses a downstairs study, mostly used for gaming - a legacy from when he was younger and I wouldn't allow the consoles etc in bedrooms..

This all coinsides with feeling that maybe I'd like to live with DP. He would also need space to wfh.

How would you allocate rooms?

The downstairs stud could accommodate a sofa bed as well as a workspace.

DS1's current room is the only one, apart from mine, that can accommodate a double bed but it seems daft to keep it empty for a handful of nights a year.

WWYD?

DS2 gets a bigger room and the gaming room is a study for DP with a decent sofa bed.

I would ask DS2 if he would prefer to keep the small bedroom plus study setup, or move to DS1's room and do his gaming in there. Either way, I would put a sofabed in the room he doesn't want and your DP could use it as a study.

I have in the past fitted a small double sofa bed in a tiny single bedroom, so it's definitely doable.

I would move DS2 to the bigger bedroom on condition that he would give up the downstairs study.
The downstairs study becomes an office for DP in case of him moving in.
Put the biggest bed you can fit into the smaller bedroom and practically nothing else.

Hmm. Then he would literally live his life upstairs, which is choice as an adult, but I'm still his mother worrying about him.
