NHS how likely is this?

Dad has some marks on his MRI that could be tumours.

He's waiting (for 3 weeks now) for a MDT at a specialist hospital to meet and review the way forward.

He has an appointment with a consultant, with the same specialism, yesterday, to be told the team haven't met yet and that this Consultant's appointment was simply needed to keep Dad in the system until they do decide the way forward.

Quite apart from a very stressful wait for Dad when hed thought he would "know" something yesterday, the cost!

He's got another appointment scheduled with the same Consultant for the same reason, but they still won't be able to tell him anything until the MDT have met. No wonder there's no money...

Yes, my DF was kept in hospital while they waited for the meeting.

Have you asked when they hold the MDT meetings?

Coastingby · 08/11/2025 16:00

I know the meetings can take a long time, it's the inefficiency of repeated wasted consultant's appointments that has me going wtf.

I’m assuming they’re checking how he is?

Whatshesaid96 · 08/11/2025 16:05

Keep checking in with them. I've completely had a different process this past week. An x ray beginning of September which was clear followed by an ultrasound Monday just gone, pulled in for an urgent CT Thursday night and already booked in for results this coming Tuesday. I do have a past case of cancer which was treated elsewhere which might have sped things up. Things can move quickly but I'd keep chasing if I needed to.

The MDT will meet weekly, but the list of cases will be massive, there often cases on the list that don’t get discussed because of time constraints, so they get deferred to the following week, and so on so forth! It’s sheer workload.
