Really ,oh goodness that's awful

Doggielovecharlotte · 06/11/2025 18:14

They said she was 85 but always thought she was younger

last good thing I saw her in was Dickensian as Mrs Gamp

Oh I absolutely loved her in Shirley Valentine.
One of my all time favourite films.

So many well kent and well loved people have left us recently.

She had Parkinson’s and was in a care home - apparently “battling” it for years

Sad news indeed. I find myself worrying about who might be next

ticktockitsNCtime · 06/11/2025 18:24

Oh no. I loved her in Shirley Valentine. No-one else could have played that part like she did - she was perfect for the role. One of my favourite films.

RIP

Tana433 · 06/11/2025 18:25

So sad, one of my favourite actressess. Mrs Caldicotts Cabbage War is the best film she made imo. It is on My 5 at the moment and i think i might watch it again tonight and raise a glass to her.

MissyB1 · 06/11/2025 18:26

Doggielovecharlotte · 06/11/2025 18:28

RIP Shirley Valentine.

berlinbaby2025 · 06/11/2025 18:34

RIP to a wonderful actress. I was wondering a few weeks ago why I hadn’t heard anything from her work wise for ages.

If anyone hasn’t seen her in Quartet then please get on it because that’s one of her best performances. I also liked her in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.

I remain freaked out in realising Shirley Valentine was supposed to be 42

I know. -these days it would be normal
for her to have had three more kids!

so weird my mum was a mature mum at 31 - I was ashamed and used to try and hide her 😂

Nitgel · 06/11/2025 18:52

i also noticed this morning, that No Honestly is on youtube. Pauline and John was such an 'it' couple.

waitam · 06/11/2025 18:54

85 you say? Well that's a surprise I thought she was much younger, and bless her she will be forever young due to SV, at least that's how I'll remember her.

Oh yes, I loved them in that. Also more recently Pauline was so good as Sarah Gamp in Dickensian, just brilliant. Very sad...
