My daughter has braces. Her teeth were pretty straight anyway, but they're very straight now, but she's got another year to go.
She's had bite blocks since the start in February. They have consistently fallen off, often within days, sometimes a few weeks.
She also had a bracket (that wasn't attached to a wire at the time), fall off and we were told that this counts as the first breakage (we have to pay if she has more than two breakages). I don't know why the bracket fell off as it wasn't attached to a wire at the time, it was fitted for the future, but now all the brackets have wire in them.
She already lost half a bite block after her last appointment (in September), but we weren't too worried as the tooth was not hitting the bracket on that side.
Now the tooth on the other side has lost it's bite block and the tooth is hitting the bracket!
I've phoned for an appointment and can't get one until next week, but DD grinds her teeth (which is why they think she keeps losing the bite blocks).
I told the receptionist that the tooth was hitting the bracket and asked if we would have to pay if the bracket or wire is damaged, and she said yes if the brace itself is damaged.
DD is upset as she knows she grinds her teeth and will be in trouble if it breaks, but even giving her soft food won't alleviate the nocturnal tooth grinding and it's not really her fault that her tooth hits the bracket.
