...can you hear any fireworks? Asking out of curiosity. I'm in a small town and they've been going for an hour or more.

Nothing! It’s one of the reasons that we love it.

Hagnumber4 · 05/11/2025 19:02

Nothing here. It's very frowned upon in my village because of the livestock

Inextremis · 05/11/2025 19:02

No, because I'm in Ireland, where they're illegal for private use. We survive just fine without them! (Having said that, DH and I just lit one sparkler each outside, because we're Brits, and it's tradition!).

EmShire · 05/11/2025 19:03

Have to admit I'm envious.

Same

We have a very well advertised organised display on the school field on the weekend closest to 5th.

Everyone knows everyone invited - horses all safely put away!

Elbowpatch · 05/11/2025 19:05

None. The only fireworks I have heard this year were at an organised display I attended at the weekend.

Grazyna80 · 05/11/2025 19:06

No . Nothing. I guess it would scare the cows . I can hear the cows. Moooo

MrsZiggywinkle · 05/11/2025 19:08

Yes, we can hear some on the edge of a large village in a semi rural area.

I would be happy not hear them. Cats are inside snoozing though so that’s good.

Ineedanewsofa · 05/11/2025 19:09

Only very distant ones for now, big local display (pub next to a riding school!!!) kicks off in an hour or so. We’ll be able to hear it but shouldn’t be too loud as it’s 2 miles away across the fields. Expecting a few from the new ‘executive homes’ at the end of the lane but hopefully not many

EmShire · 05/11/2025 19:12

Just had a horrible few minutes of loud bangs. At least I'm not in a city I suppose

A few but not close. Loads of horses round our way (including ours) so very glad. Used to live on an estate and it was like being in a war zone on bonfire night!

DPotter · 05/11/2025 19:19

Yep - been going on now for about 45mins. Not all the time

SemmaLina · 05/11/2025 19:20

No , but the village display is on Friday
We saw a few on Sunday night though

user0507 · 05/11/2025 19:22

Only very distantly. Not enough that the animals are bothered.

Eddmr · 05/11/2025 19:22

I live near Lewes. Fireworks from the 1st September until closing prayers at the start of December. The whole of Lewes and surrounding villages closed tonight for the big Lewes celebration. Trains and buses stopped at 4pm.

SwanSong30 · 05/11/2025 19:27

We live rurally and there are never any fireworks. We go to firework displays which I love, but never hear fireworks where we are.

EmShire · 05/11/2025 19:27

@Eddmr Must be a pain!

The local estate owner here had the biggest bonfire/fireworks party and have their sheep and cows in the surrounding fields! They're Londoners though who were just down for the weekend so probably clueless. Mind you probably not much difference in noise from the pheasants shoots the other estate owner have.

There have been a couple of other small ones and we had a box of low noise ones. There will probably be another quite big one in the next village at the weekend.

Getamoveon2024 · 05/11/2025 19:34

Nope, blissful silence. We’ve just moved here and this is one of the many reasons why. My dogs are loving it.

We are in a city (London) and just had a couple of quiet bangs at 17:30 from over the other side of the hill.

Of course there might be more later, but it definitely isn’t disturbing us.

I grew up near Lewes! Miss all the excitement around bonfire. Our school used to close for two days!

NewJobProblem · 05/11/2025 19:47

Gosh, this is tempting me to relocate to the countryside!
I am fairly central in London and they’ve been going non stop for a couple of hours already. There’s been a lot every night for a couple of weeks recently and will be more to come. Also random bursts late into the night. I’m often woken up at 2am, 3am, by loud random bangs from stupid people setting them off at night. Also get them all through the summer for weddings, festivals and other celebrations. I’m really so sick of hearing them!
Going to browse rightmove now for countryside escape.

Carandache18 · 05/11/2025 19:47

Yes, very rural here, cattle and sheep, horses, llamas and goats. Can hear fireworks and have been hearing them since Dilwali almost every night. They are very unpopular with the farming community, but still the big displays go on, and other events. Huge amount let off on FC land, for instance. As well as private parties on the new housing estates. Very, very tired of the bangs. They seem so loud this year.

hulahoopbbq · 05/11/2025 19:48

I live in the middle on no where and can’t hear any. Don’t hear any NYE. There is a bonfire night on Saturday near by villiage but won’t hear those either
