If you live in the countryside...

...can you hear any fireworks? Asking out of curiosity. I'm in a small town and they've been going for an hour or more.

No nothing and there never is. We are in a hamlet on the edge of a village. Very boring here. Plus if anyone does anything antisocial we all know each other. So it's swings and roundabouts. Nice for peace. Not great for anonymity

Am so jealous. It’s non stop where live from Diwali to New Year. Plus people set them off in gardens, the pavement, parks it’s horrible. It’s made me hate firework, I wish everything but official displays were illegal.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 05/11/2025 22:05

Yes, there seems to be more than ever this year. There’s been a village display tonight right next to my house and the caravan site had one on Sunday. There’s still some going off somewhere in the distance! Luckily my puppy loves them. Where we live is very flat though so noise travels in strange ways.

WWomble · 05/11/2025 22:10

Properly rural but we still had several hours of significant firework noise - more than enough to worry my clever dog.

Dappy777 · 05/11/2025 22:28

All I can hear is the screeching and exploding of a car. Some horrible, selfish little c*nts have started flying around the country lanes near me in cars that sound like machine guns going off. It shows you how loud they must be that this evening they have drowned out the sound the fireworks! It’s even worse at the weekends. I have to sleep with earplugs in and the windows closed or they’d wake me up. Needless to say the police do nothing about it.

I live about 3 miles from a village and can hear the bangs from home. I absolutely love fireworks (especially the loud ones) and have been known to drive up the road to get a better view. I’m honestly hopping around like a kid peering out the windows when I hear them start up!

I know it’s not popular to love loud fireworks these days but there’s just something so great about feeling the big booms!

Have to admit I'm envious.

Same as its still going here....up in Scotland

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2025 23:17

I’m in a village - lots of fireworks during the evening to be heard in various directions, some still going on now.
Our dear departed dogs never used to mind them - maybe they’d got used to bangs from the shooting that goes on around the area .

No, because I'm in Ireland, where they're illegal for private use. We survive just fine without them! (Having said that, DH and I just lit one sparkler each outside, because we're Brits, and it's tradition!).

I wish we had the same law. Why the British government lets people buy explosives is beyond me.
