...can you hear any fireworks? Asking out of curiosity. I'm in a small town and they've been going for an hour or more.

Not today . The newest inhabitants of the village set a load off on Saturday , resulting in a 10k vet bill for another neighbours horse , who has had to have major surgery . I was lucky mine just cut her leg open . Only the second year we’ve ever had any here due to the amount of horses and livestock . The new residents have now met far more people than they had before , mind you .

Not looking forward to this weekend either.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 05/11/2025 20:06

No... to the point that I forgot about it being Bonfire Night! Mind you, we are a few miles from the nearest town (to the point that people tend to raise their eyebrows and say, "Oh, how nice..." and then comment on the state of internet and phone signal in the area...), and I have hardly any neighbours. Sometimes you can see them in the distance, but it's all farmland around here, and that is just the way we like it!

I didn't know that fireworks for private use are banned in Ireland! It will be interesting to see if the rest of the UK ever adopts that idea.

How awful. Sorry to hear that

Nothing yet. This is unusual but it's been raining all day. There's a display tonight in nearest town so we might hear that later on.

KeepAwayFromChildren · 05/11/2025 20:53

Lovely as they are, I think they should be silent.

I have a care home two fields away for six adult residents and they had a massive bonfire with a Guy and silent fireworks. They were fabulous and I could hear the residents cheering and clapping after each one which was lovely.

Pollqueen · 05/11/2025 20:57

A couple earlier, around 7pm, nothing since. First I've heard this year

MJMa · 05/11/2025 20:58

Nothing here either. Very small bunch of houses

MrsLizzieDarcy · 05/11/2025 21:03

We're 3 hours in so far, thanks to the lovely new housing estate up the road. Rural village surrounded by farms, livestock, a nature reserve and several equestrian properties .... I swear they haven't got the brains they were born with. My poor dog is quivering under the spare bed, in spite of diazepam and a thunder shirt. The lady who owns the livery yard close by has been ranting on the local FB page and asking people to go and see how much the horses are enjoying it......

EmShire · 05/11/2025 21:18

@MrsLizzieDarcy Very inconsiderate of them.

Yes but in the distance. Nothing too loud.

mindutopia · 05/11/2025 21:22

Not literally right now, but yes, we did have some earlier but for like 2 minutes.

hellotojason · 05/11/2025 21:22

In a little village surrounded by fields, normally do hear a few but was remarking earlier that haven't heard any this year. It's never anything major though, just normally a few garden fireworks.

Ineedanewsofa · 05/11/2025 21:26

As predicted 8.30pm onwards was a shit show, just quietening down now. Doggo was getting a little stressed but we’ve got her to settle on DH’s lap by the fire with ClassicFM on pretty loudly, fingers crossed that’s it for this year.
Neighbours down the road have got all their yard lights on so I’m assuming her horses aren’t coping too well

AlwaysSometimesNever · 05/11/2025 21:27

Another new estate here with fireworks from new residents. Local livery also furious, our dogs are not bothered but neighbours are and it’s rubbish for them. V good village display in neighbouring village this weekend too so no need really.

TheNightingalesStarling · 05/11/2025 21:29

Since I'm in the village Pyromaniac Society (just the nickname we've been given as we organise such events for the village) yes I've heard a lot of fireworks. Even got to see a few but was busy serving hot chocolate for two hours solid.

Its ab organised event so hopefully meets MN approval. Several thousand raised for charity.

ReignOfError · 05/11/2025 21:35

A local farmer usually has a display for family and friends on the field behind our house, having shifted the sheep first, but I’m guessing that will be on Saturday as there’s been nothing this evening, maybe because it’s pissing down here.

The nearby village has a good organised display, also on one of the nearest Saturdays. We go, but wouldn’t hear or see it from here.

Lemonem · 05/11/2025 21:37

Yes ,I'm in a village and a neighbour did their own garden display

Periperi2025 · 05/11/2025 21:38

I live over 300m up the side of a mountain and DD7 has just come out of her bedroom as she was woken up by fireworks.

RubyBirdy · 05/11/2025 21:39

Can’t hear any, which I’m grateful for as we have a very old horse,

MrsAvocet · 05/11/2025 21:41

We've just had a bit of a flurry here. The village pub is just across a couple of fields from us so I'm guessing the fireworks are there, though I haven't been out to look as it's pouring with rain. My chickens are a bit upset. They're in their coop but we have a camera in there and I can see they're unsettled by the noise. They'd normally be asleep at this time but are alert and moving around. Hopefully it will soon be quiet and they'll go back to sleep.

BotterMon · 05/11/2025 21:42

Nothing bar local country/golf club has a display on Friday night which we will hear. It's widely advertised so people aware of their annual shindig.

Horses will be stabled and we will watch from our fields.

Randomchat · 05/11/2025 21:46

Village fireworks display for the kids at 6.30pm. Lasted about 10 minutes then there were sparklers and a small fire for marshmallows. I think they were quiet fireworks, there weren't any huge bangs or anything. Cats didn't notice, even the one that was snoozing on the windowsill.

TheatricalLife · 05/11/2025 21:50

No, I can't hear any where I am. There was a display at the village primary, but I know it was a quiet one so nothing. Nobody does them in gardens on our road as there are quite a few thatched cottages.

MyAcornWood · 05/11/2025 21:54

Yes. We live very rurally but also on the coast and across the bay, so to speak, is a large display every year. It’s quite still so the sound travels. It’s gorgeous to watch, reflecting off the sea 😍
We’ve got all sorts of livestock; horses, cows, sheep, a bloody goat, poultry etc etc. none seem overly concerned. Well apart from fat pony who was concerned that I had the audacity to go down to the stables to check them briefly just now and then leave again without giving him his supper. Immaterial that he already had his supper a while ago. To (mis)quote a hobbit, yes but what about second supper??

TubeScreamer · 05/11/2025 21:54

I’ve heard one this evening.

there is a village display at the weekend which will be very noisy for about 15 minutes.
