I have a hole in my gum and what very much feels like a tooth coming through, it’s rock hard. Can wisdom teeth appear at 36?!
The last few days I’ve had horrific face ache, ear ache and jaw ache but thought I had another sinus infection, now I’ve spotted this I’m wondering if that’s what been causing it afterall…
I’ve only got one wisdom tooth that came through which was horrific and about 15 years ago now, the one on this side the last xray showed it was still below gum line and lying sideways so now I’m worrying it’s trying to break though and going to give me massive shit

I'm not a dentist, but it looks more like you've got an abscess in that back tooth to me 😬

RiseOfTheTeenyTinies · 04/11/2025 18:01

If it was lying sideways I would suspect that it is indeed your wisdom tooth trying to erupt but is impacted. Get to a dentist you may need to have it out.

It’s a hole, with definite bone like material in it 😆 ack ! Seriously can wisdom teeth come through now ? I thought they were a young adult thing ?

the one that did come through years ago was impacted and only erupted half way through, that did cause an abscess with a very swollen face !

I AM a dentist. That is a partially erupted wisdom tooth. Unless it is actually causing problems it’s fine

YodasHairyButt · 04/11/2025 18:15

You need to see a dentist. An X-ray will show whether that wisdom tooth is trying to find its way out. If it is, that possibly what’s causing your pain.

My final wisdom tooth started coming through in my late forties!

MaggieBsBoat · 04/11/2025 18:21

A dentist has already posted and I am not one, but this is a beautiful wisdom tooth coming through. Congratulations 🥂

Mary46 · 04/11/2025 18:32

Hi ! Do you think this is what could be causing the facial pain I’ve had ??

I had my wisdoms come through in my 30s. One of them fell out like a baby tooth about 12 years later, it looked like a large pine nut!

Yes. Basically you’ve had teething pain

Horrific. My poor toddlers !!
I am worried about this one though as it’s on the side of my 2nd moler rather than behind it, and the last xray showed it sideways ! Will this affect my other teeth?

Wisdom teeth are the worst!! I have all of mine now (had one removed as impacted) but the pain of them coming in was unreal! Definitely get an X-ray to make sure it’s not going to cause you any issues

Mine didn't come through until my 30s too

nonotnowmate · 05/11/2025 11:01

Okay definite tooth pain today ! Can’t believe I thought it was a sinus infection, it felt exactly like one though. Going to call around some dentists if I can get one

Yep. Went wobbly for a few days then out it came, clean out. No pain, no debris left inside. Just like it was never meant to be there! It wasn't decayed.
It was strangely satisfying. It felt so massive when it was moving and when I saw it I just thought, you are a tiny pathetic little thing! Literally a big pine nut. 🤣

jillybean72 · 06/11/2025 23:25

My wisdom teeth came through in my 30s..one only half came through with a flap of gum over it at one side..stuff obviously got stuck down there causing lots of jaw pain I had ir cauterised off but it grew back! Eventually had it took out..totally painless and never had the pain again..bliss

Flowers8989 · 06/11/2025 23:35

My partner is 39 and had a wisdom tooth pulled a few weeks ago because it was coming through and giving him loads of grief and paun so they can come through really late!

nonotnowmate · 07/11/2025 06:35

Can I ask how it was to remove ? The dentist I saw yesterday said there is no way that’s going to come out on its own, the only way it’ll come out on its own is if the tooth in front falls out lol
been referred to have it remove but it’s going to cost £1k private 😳

HelloCheekyCat · 07/11/2025 06:44

I was lucky to get mine removed under GA in hospital (20 years ago) because they had really long curved roots, is that an option nowadays?!

Ladybugheart · 07/11/2025 06:46

Yep that's exactly how my one and only wisdom tooth started coming through aged 32.. it only got half way out before it stopped. So I guess I have half a wisdom tooth 🤣🤣
