I don't want to pay more fucking tax!

1000 replies

marthainthemarket · 04/11/2025 14:17

I am the sole earner in a family of four, earning just under 40k a year and getting probably fuck all or below inflation pay increase next year, if I am lucky enough to keep my job ( public sector and employer needing to make massive budget savings). I barely cope now.

I am so fucking angry that Labour fucked up the disability benefit cuts. Other countries don't have run away disability benefits crises because they have a proper assessment process that means they keep a lid on people getting disability benefits who don't really need them. But instead of dealing with that, they came up with a crap proposed cut that wouldn't have dealt with the actual issues and they couldn't defend.

And having fucked that up they are now raising everyone's tax. I hate them!

What sort of terrible accident results in 6 kids? 🤣

I nearly spat my coffee out😂

So very true though.

Do you think that flinging around that kind of clichéd insult is conducive to civilised debate?

Another oldie “They hang the man and flog the woman who steals the goose from off the common: but let the greater villain loose that steals the common from the goose”.

As then, this all started with privatization of resources and public wealth.

I don't know that one but it's even more fitting than my old ditty. Don't get me started on Thatcher. She sold the family silver.

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:31

Well we have the minimum wage, so we already have a framework. It just isn't really the amount you need to live, which is why there is also a living wage (and a London living wage) and even then I'm not sure how much those factor in housing and childcare.

It doesn't really factor those things in & plenty will argue that the minimum wage is too high. We spend fair more on housing benefits vs other similar European countries.

The housing situation is a complete mess.

The housing situation is a complete mess.

Not going to disagree here - it is the biggest thing we need to fix.

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:46

Surprised how no one’s come on to admonish you for this @eqpi4t2hbsnktd and tell you how lucky you are to have the privilege of working 6 days a week!

Why is that poster working 6 days a week? I work p/t because of the cliff edge & my dc are still young.

MO0N · 04/11/2025 17:47

They need need need to go after all the newly made billionaires, the idle rich landlords, and the aristos who do indeed have money sloshing around. Property prices in this country are huge because some can pay for it. The money is there. It is inequality, corruption, and the greed of the rich that marks Britain out in Europe, marks us out as an American vassal in all but name
I agree completely @WaryCrow but how can we ensure that the wealthy make a fair contribution??
The only way I can think of is pitchforks & flaming torches, tonight, quickly before they have chance to move it somewhere else.

Tiredandtrying · 04/11/2025 17:39

you clearly have no idea how hard it is to live outside of a princess palace. Bye 👋🏼

You think taking a free morning after pill means you live in a princess palace????

If someone is that irresponsible with no contingency measures in place then they frankly should not be having children.

We have a declining birthrate but it is the feckless who continue to have children. Their children continue the lifestyle and have children and now we have an out of control welfare state.

LizzieSiddal · 04/11/2025 17:47

The country is absolutely fucked. We all want more police on the streets, a better NHS, our elderly looked after properly and good schools for our dc. etc etc. that doesn’t come free! We all need to do our bit to get back on track after years of absolute chaos.

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:49

You can't debate with posters like @belovedandpureones remember they know what they believe & that's that! It's depressing tbh.

So 4 lots of healthcare provision, future pension accrual, 2 lots of education I’d assume. Fuck me you owe some dough! You think it’s all ‘free’

TheThingsYouDoForLurve · 04/11/2025 14:20

I’m (still) more annoyed at Cameron for the start of all this, namely, austerity and being unable to appease the Rigjht of his party leading to Brexit, which of course led to economic suicide, impounded by Johnson which in turn lead to the rise of Reform. The Tories didn’t want to win the last election as they knew this shitstorm was in the pipeline.

It's hard to believe looking back that we thought we needed austerity because the goverment debt was £1Trillion when Cameron came in, now that its sitting at £2.9Trillion. It's like boiling frogs.

Brmmmn · 04/11/2025 17:49

We earn significantly more as a family. I don't want to pay more tax. But I can't bring myself to think it's okay to cut disabilities.

Maybe UC for the physically abled. But I can't let disabled people suffer in agony (when they already suffer enough)

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 04/11/2025 17:49

Tiredandtrying · 04/11/2025 17:26

What if your partner left you with nothing. What if your contraception failed. What if you were raped and it resulted in pregnancy. What if your partner died. What if you have a terrible accident and become disabled.

i absolutely hate the vile spouted here against the most vulnerable. It sickens me.

But why is someone who has CHOSEN to have lots of children KNOWING they can't pay for them 'the most venerable'?

Brmmmn · 04/11/2025 17:50

If you have disabled kids I can't in good conscious just say "f it. Screw you. No state support" how horrible.

I have a vague memory on another thread someone saying disabled kids should be aborted...

Very sad.

Sunshineandrainbow · 04/11/2025 17:50

I get it I really do, I do a full time job plus 2 extra evenings in a different job as a top up. Earn £31,000, single parent one child at home (rented)
Adult dd works hard earns 35,000 and is struggling to pay her private rent.

If things change I dread to think what will happen.

Something has to give. People need to be encouraged to work but how?

OneBookTooMany · 04/11/2025 17:52

BadSkiingMum · 04/11/2025 14:36

The recent BBC Panorama ‘Is Britain Broke?’ sets the reasons out pretty well. I watched it twice, just to fully understand the economics.
It comes down to:

The global financial crisis in 2008
A need for increased defence spending
Longer lifespans with more years of poor health
Higher demands on the NHS
Increased welfare spending
The economic shocks of Brexit and Covid

Your position is a difficult one, to be sure. But unfortunately a penny on basic rate is the best possible way to increase tax revenue.

I don’t think they want to do it.

Edited

The BBC you say.

The children, not the parents.

@Palmtreebreeze what have you based this on? In recent years poorer people are having less dc

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:52

You think they are lying about that?

belovedandpureones · 04/11/2025 17:53

Tiredandtrying · 04/11/2025 17:37

There are almost zero recorded losses to the taxpayer due to fraud in the disability benefit benefits system, new statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show.
Personal independence payment (PIP) fraud stood at 0% in the financial year ending 2024. Meanwhile, disability living allowance (DLA) fraud was just 0.1%, which was rounded to £0m.
It comes as the government continues its drive to tighten disability benefits, eradicate “sick-note culture” and crack down on fraud within the welfare system more widely.

Yes those might be the ‘official’ figures. We all know the actual figure is significantly higher. Do you really think they tell us the truth? You really believe PIP fraud stood at 0%?

msberry · 04/11/2025 17:53

I agree. I am truly fed up with it all.

Property prices in this country are huge because some can pay for it. The money is there. It is inequality, corruption, and the greed of the rich that marks Britain out in Europe, marks us out as an American vassal in all but name.

Richard Burgon MP is heading a campaign to tax the wealth. https://www.taxpayersagainstpoverty.org.uk/post/tap-backs-mp-richard-burgon-s-wealth-tax-campaign-and-no-disability-benefit-cuts-petition

Once the money is claimed back from the wealthy (starting with our tax dodging corrupt royal family) it needs to be used to nationalise services to stop public wealth bring leached out into foreign tax havens.

The money is there. It’s not lack of wealth that makes us now poorer than Poland but lack of distribution. Anyone who says otherwise is lying through their teeth and taking the public for fools.

https://equalitytrust.org.uk

I assume this also means:
Anyone who has paid off their mortgage
Anyone earning more than 45k
Single person households, not to be confused with single parent households.

Feel free to add any other undeserving groups

That seems to be the a running theme on here.

Brmmmn · 04/11/2025 17:53

Was Brexit that bad to us? Or just a minor scratch so to speak. Yeah it's a bit annoying to go on holiday and it's silly trade with the EU is a bit more costly now.

But is it that bad?

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:54

@Brmmmn yes Brexit was bad, really and

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:54

bad
