I don't want to pay more fucking tax!

1000 replies

marthainthemarket · 04/11/2025 14:17

I am the sole earner in a family of four, earning just under 40k a year and getting probably fuck all or below inflation pay increase next year, if I am lucky enough to keep my job ( public sector and employer needing to make massive budget savings). I barely cope now.

I am so fucking angry that Labour fucked up the disability benefit cuts. Other countries don't have run away disability benefits crises because they have a proper assessment process that means they keep a lid on people getting disability benefits who don't really need them. But instead of dealing with that, they came up with a crap proposed cut that wouldn't have dealt with the actual issues and they couldn't defend.

And having fucked that up they are now raising everyone's tax. I hate them!

You've gone straight to divide and rule. Why must the disabled be targeted? Very odd. Paying tax provides our NHS, Care support, roads, public buildings, schools the lot...are you really saying you don't use any of those things.
Are you really claiming that you dont care about the vulnerable, the homeless, the sick, the elderly?
Fair taxation yes...but straight to hurting the weak...yuck...your selfish world is how we got here 🤢🤮

The only people who can afford a rise is tax are the ones who are rich and well connected enough to dodge it anyway. In any case, only those earning above £150,000 year as a household should have their taxes raised. The fact that someone earning £51,000 is paying the same tax as someone earning £120,000 is ABSURD.

The tax rate may be the same but the person earning £51,000 receives 79% of this as net income.

The person earning £120,000 only receives 67% as net income so there are contributing more because overall they are paying 15% more tax..

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:22

I don’t have to provide links to entitled people such as yourself

Do you know what entitled means @belovedandpureones?

If you are disagreeing with facts & stating things that are untrue you need to back that up, surely you know this?

I know what’s what and that’s good enough for me!

The flat earthers etc say the same 😆

Talking to a friend of mine the other day.
.
She said 'Ill never work more than 3 days a weeks and loose my benefits. I like having the me time"

I work 6 days a week so she can work 3 essentially. I didn't agree to that.

Yes it is disgusting. Going part time used to be something you did approaching retirement or if you had reached the top of your career and could afford to step back..

Now it seems to be the feckless who do it. None of the work but all of the reward.

Oh grow up. People want more and more services for less and less tax.

The increase will pay off national debt. There will be no improvement of services.

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:10

And also wanting to scrap the 2 child benefit cap.. why to people want to be taxed more to pay for other people's bloody kids?? It's ludicrous

Look at birth rates, people aren't having dc like they did in the past!

You mean working people aren’t having the children like they used to, and therefore providing more workers for the state. The net takers who don’t contribute at all are of course having as many dc as they want, it costs them nothing as everyone else pays for it.

I sort of agree. Truth is you’re not paying enough tax for the services and public functions and facilities that you are using.

That said - it’s not really Labours’ fault there isn’t enough money. It’s David Cameron’s. You’ve got the right fight but you’re blaming the wrong people - you should be raging about inequality. The top 1% are absolutely filthy rich. That inequality runaway happened under the previous government, was organised largely by them and also ‘taught’ how public’s’ meagre workers (you) that austerity is fair and necessary.

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:24

If you're making the point that labour has been subsidised in one way or other for a long time, then of course I'd agree.

I am @HereAreYourOptions & I am confused why some people act like it's a new thing.

I'd still prefer that companies pay a wage that covers all of the costs of living though.

Housing needs to be sorted first. How do we make companies pay a fair wage?

Totally agree. It's not us punishing children - it's the parents having children they can't afford.

I have 2 children because I can afford 2 children. Why would it be someone else's fault if I decided to have 6 children but could only afford 2?

What if your partner left you with nothing. What if your contraception failed. What if you were raped and it resulted in pregnancy. What if your partner died. What if you have a terrible accident and become disabled.

i absolutely hate the vile spouted here against the most vulnerable. It sickens me.

Cut back on spending. Stop doing everything in their power to hammer businesses, drive out the wealthy and shrink the actual tax base. Acquaint themselves with the Laffer Curve.

Tbf I would rather they increased taxes across the board than fannying around with definitions of "working person" to tax the usual mugs some more.

We can't cut back on spending because things have been cut to the bone already. The savings aren't there to be had. Labour know it and Reform UK are discovering it. Also, we actively need to raise revenue.

ruethewhirl · 04/11/2025 14:59

You do realise some of 'those who have never contributed' have never physically been able to? And you're saying you'd like to see them struggle even more than they already are doing?

Some cant work. If you live near an area with low employment you will see that the reality is that many able people just have no intention to ever work. Not on the agenda

Molly499 · 04/11/2025 17:27

whittingtonmum · 04/11/2025 15:36

Nope. Just pay your taxes like the rest of us. Why do you want to sit on your backside take income from stocks and shares and pay less tax than the rest of us? Nothing to do with tall poppies. Just rich people thinking they need to pay less tax than those who are employed. Embarrassing and unpatriotic.

You do realise that stock and shares are bought with tax paid income and any gain/profit is subject to another CG tax, it's hardly a crime!

I think people who have done well are just sick of being taxed to earn it and more tax if you do anything worthwhile with it.

I agree with the tall poppy analysis together with a lot of misunderstanding.

And those children will probably grow up to live on benefits like theor parents anyway 🙄 therefore totally useless

Are they? Pensioners make up the majority of net recipients (which is to be expected & normal). How many families do you think have loads of dc?

It’s Starmer and Reeves for mangling the last budget and hitting growth with tax and borrowing hike. Now they need more due to this.

Barclays is forecasting that Reeves will be looking for £41bn in tax rises in the budget, up from their prediction of £26.5bn in September.

Well we have the minimum wage, so we already have a framework. It just isn't really the amount you need to live, which is why there is also a living wage (and a London living wage) and even then I'm not sure how much those factor in housing and childcare.

Notonthestairs · 04/11/2025 17:28

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:09

@HereAreYourOptions why not have more social housing like the past or do you think that was wrong then?

"In the 1960s, 1.24 million social homes were built compared to 150,000 in the 2010s. In 1969, we built more social rent homes than we have built in the last 13 years combined."

Nearly 90,000 council houses were build in 1980.
Dropped to 18,000 by 1990.
Right to buy was introduced in the Housing Act 1980 and councils were allowed only to keep a small portion of the sales raised which meant they couldnt replace stock at the same rate it was sold.

cottonwoolie · 04/11/2025 17:30

This gets better!

You think none of the economic strife we are in now can be linked to previous governments?!

Brexit harmed productivity even more than initially realised & productivity was shit before Brexit.

Have you been living under a rock...this is to subsidise businesses that pay badly ...a Tory policy to hide unemployment...the 16hrs was built by government to sub businesses...can you blame...mothers for example for using a gift to businesses this way 🤦‍♀️

Nickyknackered · 04/11/2025 17:30

marthainthemarket · 04/11/2025 14:28

Let me guess. You can easily absorb this tax rise...

Edited

What does that mean? I earn less than you for a start, but too much for benefits. I can ill afford to lose our essential services more because I rely on them. If I pay more then so do those richer than me. Even better!

Nobody minds at all paying for the genuine. You cannot deny there a sizeable portion of the population who choose benefits as a choice.

Can’t remember the exact quote but this is certainly correct: those who receive a benefit are never as grateful for it as those who pay for it are angry.

Probably because gratitude has been replaced with entitlement.
