Have you done anything constructive today?

Day off work.
Feels like I haven't got much done but have actually made tonight's dinner (Cauliflower cheese and a baked (airfryer) gammon joint). And two loads of laundry and shifted a couple of bags of outgrown clothes from DCs drawers.

Need to book a few appointments and do an online shop before school pick up.

What have you been up to?

Aww thanks @EmeraldRoulette you've made me feel better!
I also cleared out the fridge of odds and ends and gave it a wipe down this morning, I'd forgotten about that so quite productive, all in all.
By the way, that was obviously the word I was looking when creating this post - productive, not constructive!

I have the day off work. Went for a run, had a long appointment at the dentist, did some food shopping and will be having a therapy session in a bit.

PracticalPixie · 04/11/2025 14:47

Nope! I am off sick. Nothing but MN, Judge Judy and sleeping

FullOfMomsense · 04/11/2025 14:52

Took the kids to school and nursery, got home and tidied the house, drove to get a coffee, came home and got dinner prepped (cheesy chicken and bacon pasta bake with tonnes of garlic), then flopped on the sofa and did some more Christmas shopping online. Now in the car waiting for the school gates to open, then off to swimming, then nursery, then home for dinner. Wishing I was in bed! Fairly productive but not the best use of my time. Tomorrow will be better.

DramaAlpaca · 04/11/2025 14:58

No - and I'm at work! I'm telling myself I'm productively procrastinating. I'd better get off MN and actually do something I suppose.

OnlyYellowRoses · 04/11/2025 15:03

Not much! I’m on maternity leave with my ten week old daughter.
Put a wash on,
Collected a parcel from the locker and picked up some more coffee from Sainsbury’s whilst there.
Popped the hoover round and cleaned the bathroom.
Off to take her for her first lot of vaccines later so trying to ensure all housework was done prior as I feel the next few days will be all baby care related tasks!

InMySpareTime · 04/11/2025 15:06

Update:
my quiet day of resting was disrupted by an unexpected visitor bringing back a chair I forgot I sent to be reupholstered.
She stayed for a cuppa and a chat but now I’m tired from unplanned socialising.
I’m not cut out for this adulting lark, I’d rather be messing about with fabric, paint or plants.

Ted27 · 04/11/2025 15:09

Been to B&Q to get some garden supplies, with the help of my son wrestled a huge tarp over the polytunnel, in the wind

Went to pets at home for supplies for my new kitties arriving on Saturday
Sent several emails to school re my foster child being bullied.
Squeezed in an hour at the gym

My son is baby sitting my foster child this evening so I can go to the theatre.

That's enough for one day

Nigellastwinklylights · 04/11/2025 15:22

No, not really. I’ve had to take the day off as we have a guy working on the house today and someone had to be here.
Currently stuck in one room, with the dog, doom scrolling Mumsnet. Can’t believe how much rubbish I’m reading. I guess working hours are when the bots/political posters/trolls post their stuff.

Need to something useful before I totally lose the plot.

StuffyHuffyPuffy · 04/11/2025 15:38

My days off are sacred; today was one of those fays. My proudest achievement; I spent 2 hours playing 'Fruit Merge' in bed. I beat my highest score. Very productive!

(Also hoovered, swept, cleaned kitchen and put a wash on, but very light-touch, I just wanted to have a completely guilt-free day off).

Pollqueen · 04/11/2025 15:42

That's constructive. It's my birthday today so been out having hair done and lovely boozy lunch and out later with other friends for a lovely spa session and boozy meal so not constructive but brilliant day

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 04/11/2025 15:42

I worked 7-3 in the hospital, I’m now at the gym and then I’ll be taking a long walk before going home to make dinner. Not bad imo.

Itwouldbesonice · 04/11/2025 15:49

I haven’t done a lot today as I have a headache that won’t shift. Did manage two loads of washing, made a homemade soup, hoovered upstairs, did an online shop, a few texts and phone calls to family members, made a gp appointment and I gave someone a lift. Sounds quite a lot written down!

Bluevelvetsofa · 04/11/2025 15:49

Cleaned both bathrooms and cloakroom, with a special mention for the shower screen. Vacuumed and dusted upstairs and down, including skirting boards and ceilings. Cleaned out the fridge which hasn’t much in because of a supermarket shop tomorrow.

Put away all the cushions from the outdoor furniture, in the loft bit of the garage.

Looking at what’s left in the fridge, so a decision can be made about dinner.

MadisonAvenue · 04/11/2025 15:57

I walked the dog for an hour first thing which is no mean feat. He’s 11 months old and is big, very strong and bouncy (he actually managed to pull me over on a walk last week in his excitement 😳).

I drove into town just after 9. It’s a big learning curve as I only passed my test in August and we’ve just moved to a completely new area so I’m still trying to find my way around. I returned an order to M&S, did some food shopping while I was there and also bought a new hoodie and some pyjamas.

I don't really see how that's doing something constructive, but ok...😜

Peridot1 · 04/11/2025 16:29

@Itwouldbesonice - it’s often the way that we think we haven’t done much but when you write it down it’s loads.

I have now taken all the recycling down to the road - we are up a long driveway. Filled the car with cardboard and the box of glass and drove that down.

And washed out the bottle bin.

Now have a towel and teatowel wash on. And tried to clear some of the clutter off the kitchen surfaces. Which seems to accumulate every five bloody minutes.

PurpleYarnivore · 04/11/2025 16:36

I feel like I’ve not done much as my daughter is off school ill for the 2nd day ( straight after 1/2 term was hoping to achieve lots this week ).
in between tending to her , I’ve gone through all the Xmas presents I’ve already got and written a list , hoovered the house , done 2 washes and hung up , put a chilli in the slow cooker , done an online food shop , even read my book for an hour while she was resting . But the most important thing is I’ve delivered all my financial documents to my solicitor for my divorce which has been a real effort to collate so I’m now treating myself to an early bath !

Screwyoucolin · 04/11/2025 16:38

Did two rounds of couch to 5k. Used to run 20 odd miles a week for 18 years or so and the past few years have done nothing. Felt good to be back out. I do have a tendency to be really lazy so it is not easy.

blizymitzy · 04/11/2025 16:41

It’s my day off too
Ive helped out for 3 hours at a community event locally that I do monthly this morning.

had lunch with dd3
sorted the washing and got a load on
ordered my make up online that I’ve run out of.
had a massage and now chilling before my workout session at the gym tonight with 2 friends.

A lovely day off here and very productive for you too @BigJanette

BlindSpotForCats · 04/11/2025 16:42

Depends what your definitioon of constructive is I guess.

I'm not working today. I drove my Dcs to school. (constructive). Bought DS1 a clear pencil case for his GCSE mocks (constructive).

Sat down and read over DH's letter to the solicitor about a legal issue we are having (constructive). Went to the laundrette to dry bedclothes (constructive). Came home and drank some wine while watching 'Nativity!' on netflix (not constructive). About to make cheese burgers and fries for DCs (constructive). Then help DS1 with his mocks (constructve).

Not sure I achieved MUCH, but it was all mostly of some purpose.

Imtornanddontknowwhattodo · 04/11/2025 16:47

Nothing.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 04/11/2025 16:50

I’m off sick, but I’ve done half an hour of an online CPD course, and gone to sort my horses out, because I have to be actually dead not to do that.

Bloody knackered now though.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/11/2025 17:00

Sorted out my timetable as manager keeps forgetting.
