Horrible cold sore - advice please

hello, as the title suggests I have a rotten cold sore. Quite a large patch of small blisters that starts from the top of my lip and goes upwards towards my nose.

I’ve suffered from them since a teen - can go years without them, then get them out the blue.

Started yesterday AM and have been applying aciclover cream regularly. Feel lousy with it - all a soften feel very run down.

Tomorrow will be day 3 - will I be too late to get anti viral medication?

Sorry that should read that all of a sudden feel very run down.

My skin looked so good last week, was so chuffed with it! Today it looks horrendous!

Go and get the tablets - they work so much quicker to get rid of it

(And get a packet so that next time it happens you take it immediately as they work best when you catch it early - you’re probably already on the way out with this one!)

Moving forward get yourself some Lysine and take it daily. Dh has never had one since and he gets them regularly.

I suffered with horrendous cold cores especially in winter. Mine usually spread from the corner of my mouth up to my nose, they cause massive swelling and obviously look awful then take weeks to go completely.
i started taking daily L-lysine and using propolis lip balm and not only do I get far fewer when I do get them they’re much less severe. I have one now after I left my lip balm at work last weekend and it’s almost invisible, could be mistaken as a small spot.
aciclovir tablets will help clear the one you have up quicker even though it’s pretty advanced.

Aciclovir tablets, if you can’t get them from your GP you can get the online from Pharmica (or other pharmacies), they are amazing.

coxesorangepippin · 04/11/2025 01:04

Yes, you need the tablets

The cream doesn't work

AnxiousAnnieeeeeeeeee · 04/11/2025 07:25

Thanks all. I’ve ordered the L-Lysine from Amazon and they arrive today. Just went for the ones with decent reviews.

I wasn’t sure if I was too late for tablets - it’s still blistered and tingly / itchy. Will buy them from boots today as no way I will get an appointment and prescription that quick from the GP.

Start acilovior tablets as a daily treatment to prevent outbreaks starting

AnxiousAnnieeeeeeeeee · 04/11/2025 11:39

My skin is awful - my whole face feels not right. My make up looks terrible as though it’s a greasy mess on my face. It wasn’t like this before the cold sore started, so I assume I’m run down?

The only thing that works for me is tea tree oil - they don't get as big/ugly and they clear up much more quickly. None of the creams work for me.
