DGS is 4..just started reception.
Typical wild boy, into cars, dinosaurs and currently, horses.
He loves his bedtime stories, we have the usual Julia Donaldson, and he loves the Mog (Judith Kerr) ones, the Alfie (Shirley Hughs) etc.

Xmas is looming so I need some recommendations for more books. He's up for slightly longer ones but I don't think he's ready for the Narnia ones or anything that long (I can't wait to be able to read those to him) I have plenty of stories from my own children's days and have bought lots more, but I would love ideas of current favourites for 5 yr olds!

I’ve got the grumpus for Christmas for my dc aged 5! It’s a lovely Christmas story!
I also second the daisy books,
Mine also like the Roald Dahl stories, the twits, Charlie and the chocolate factory etc.

I would recommend audio as an alternative to books. There is a channel on Spotify that stream calming bedtime and downtime stories for young children and it is called "The Quiet Story Room". Worth checking out

The incredible book eating boy
The book with no pictures
The unbelievable top secret diary of pig (more 5/6 than 4)

My daughters recently enjoyed a new bedtime story called Milo MoonBear and the Sleepy Star. It’s about a little moon bear who carries a lantern through the night sky and meets a sleepy star. It’s quite gentle and calming, so it works really well as a bedtime read.

It’s not too long either, so it suits that 4–5 age range nicely. My girls like the dreamy nighttime feel of it. Might be worth a look if he enjoys bedtime stories.
