ADHD - How Do You Kickstart Your Brain If You Have To Focus/Study?

Can you give me your top tips that work for you (or your teenagers) when you’ve got deadlines that require focus / effort / study?

My son is at college and desperately trying to find techniques that will help him study (he’s medicated for ADHD), so I thought I’d ask the hive mind here for ideas please!

Sometimes being very close to the deadline is the only real motivator because I really really have to do this now because I have no other choice.

Sorry that isn’t a better answer.

Good Post. Would also love some ideas for myself - in my 50’s and studying for a degree. It’s frustrating to feel I could be capable of so much more if I could focus.

Keep your shoes on. Seriously. Shoes off = brain relax mode.

Have someone to hold you accountable for what needs doing. Video calling whilst doing task works for me, even if not actually talking much to other person, it's good to have someone there in the background whilst you do the thing that needs to be done.

Ha yes nothing quite like a deadline to get the dopamine going!

Oh yes he does the shoes thing quite often by default, I’ll remind him of that one!

I’ll get him to try video calling. I did suggest it a while ago he dismissed it but he might be more receptive now.
