Panorama doctored Trumps ‘Capitol’ speech?

GoldThumb · 03/11/2025 21:15

According to the Telegraph, Panorama doctored Trumps speech.

They showed him saying ‘We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and I’ll be there with you. And we fight. We fight like hell’

The actual speech was ‘We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re gonna cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women’

A few months ago, it was also reported by the telegraph that the BBC mistranslated ‘Jihad against the Jews’ to ‘resisting Israeli forces’

What is going on at the BBC? Why are we paying a licence fee for this shit?

The Telegraph (@Telegraph) on X

🚨 EXCLUSIVE: The BBC edited a Donald Trump speech by making him appear to encourage the Capitol Hill riot, according to an internal whistleblowing memo seen by The Telegraph Watch the two versions and read the full story ⤵️ https://t.co/NUVYDQkjJH

So maybe Trump was right all along when he says fake news?

Freysimo · 04/11/2025 08:11

Not surprised, but why has it only come out now? US sources must have known. The BBC has the cheek to raise the licence fee next year, so hopefully even less people will pay. Time to defund and go subscription.

GoldThumb · 04/11/2025 08:14

Wonder if Verify will cover it?

'Cheering on [sic] our brave senators and congressman and women', spoken with sarcasm/malice, would be understood by hearers to be threatening. We didn't need it to be edited out to understand what effect he was after. In some ways it's worse because it's more insidious and debatable on paper. I get that the BBC was aiming to 'help' us understand what took place but it is shocking that a news programme edited in this way to make their picture stronger, without saying what they had done. How do we know what is real, and what doctored to fit a narrative.

But then, the BBC is its own cult.

Now I'm not even confident that Mick Shipman saw a dead body on his way into work.

What is incoherent about going down to cheer on Senators and Congress men and women?

Do you not understand that their cutting out gave the exact opposite message to people who are still to this day accusing him of rallying the crowds up for an insurrection? Seems like the exact opposite was true.

I’m trying to understand this -

I watched the day -6 Jan 2021- in real time on the internet and he did rally the crowds. And the crowds marched on the capital and people were hurt and one policeman died of a heart attack as a result and another was disabled from injuries sustained doing his job? And Trump had said he’d march with them but he didn’t, and he didn’t call on the national guard to stop it at any point leaving members of congress extremely vulnerable. Then Trump pardons all the rioters when he gets back into office earlier this year.

BBC televised a documentary last year nearly 4 years after the Jab 6 insurrection, and just before the US Harris/Trump election, and they chopped the footage to make it look like nearly 4 years later Trump said we are going to march down there …and fight like hell.

Is that correct?

defrazzled · 04/11/2025 08:42

The BBC has made a lot of mistakes in showing bias regarding the rape gangs and the gender debate. They are an utter disgrace and watching them feels like being gaslit! Their attitude is arrogant and divisive, they will be telling "us uneducated oiks" how to thinks correctly. They can get fucked.

We don’t need big brother to ‘help’ us understand though.
We certainly don’t need to pay for the ‘pleasure’.

Just report the news, factually, and let people make up their own minds.

They usually ignore criticism of this sort of thing so I never understood why they bent over backwards to apologise - to the extent that Peter Fincham the director resigned - when they changed footage of the Queen making it appear she had stormed out in a huff during a photo session with Annie Leibovitz.
I doubt they’ll do much about this latest misinformation.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 04/11/2025 09:12

The middle part of his speech was edited, and perhaps that did make his incitement of the mob more obvious than it actually was.

But are you seriously trying to suggest that Trump didn't actually do anything to incite the riots at all, and that the BBC was the only media broadcaster that put forward this narrative? Or if that isn't what you're trying to say, then what's your point exactly?

Most news channels and documentaries will edit long speeches/select certain soundbites etc. That isn't news. And while the editing on the Panorama documentary might have made Trump's incitement of the riots seem a bit more overt than it actually was, the story itself wasn't fabricated. He did egg the rioters on, as reported by most of the world's media at the time. So please don't try to gaslight us now into thinking that that didn't happen.

I watched the speech live. Let’s just say I don’t remember anything about brave senators etc….

CrocodileJen · 04/11/2025 09:24

BBC is a f’ing disgrace. I stopped paying the licence fee after their coverage of Covid and it’s only gotten more left wing since then. Tim Davie should have been fired long ago.

Toto0 · 04/11/2025 09:33

Not appropriate, and totally easy to edit to show the two talking points while making sure to make it clear there was a gap, splice editing in that way for a news show isn’t appropriate.
highlighting the gap in itself is important as it shows the sheer amount of time he was talking.

AzurePanda · 04/11/2025 09:57

@MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack it’s irrelevant whether Trump directly incited the riot or not in this context. There is editing and there is splicing together two different sentences from an hour apart to make him appear to say something completely different.

It’s not about Trump, or what he did, or in that case, did not say.

It’s about the BBC splicing together a speech, making it seem someone said things they did not.
It’s dishonest.
This is our publicly funded broadcaster.

And you’re okay with this? Just because you don’t like Trump?

Do you seriously not see the issue?

Yep it helps if you stop. We did recently and this kind of thing is just reinforcing why.

AzurePanda · 04/11/2025 12:46

I would love to stop paying the licence fee but doesn’t that mean watching no terrestrial television at all? Isn’t that a pain?

hamstersarse · 04/11/2025 12:54

Anything to do with Trump, people don’t generally care about lies / fake news - they have such TDS that they can’t accept he’s not the monster press make out, they want to stay in their bubble and keep their baddie.

The problem is that he’s only a monster because you’ve been told he is. When you take a look at direct sources, you will see he’s literally not that bad. It’s an awful thing when you realise you’ve been manipulated.

We don’t watch any so it was easier. We just watch a streamed series one at a time, usually Netflix.

AzurePanda · 04/11/2025 13:04

@EasternStandard we watch zero BBC but occasionally other channels - it’s very annoying as I’m sick to death of the gaslighting and resent funding it.

@hamstersarse it’s amazing to me how completely unbothered people are surrounding the misreporting of Trump remarks. He never recommmended people inject bleach to stop Covid, he never suggested Liz Cheney should be shot in the face and of course he never said “there are fine people on both sides” regarding thr neo - Nazis in Charlottesville. I remain gob smacked too by the lack of reaction to the manipulation and cover up surrounding Russia Gate and Hunter Biden’s laptop.

The only reason he’s not in prison is because he managed to become president again. “He’s literally not that bad” Jesus. God help America.

How to prove my point

The only reason he isn’t in prison is because he had done nothing wrong. Despite masses of lawfare cases against him. Constantly. Nothing but a pathetic charge for paying off a mistress, in instalments

Nope. He was convicted of 34 felony charges and would have received a sentence but he was to to be inaugurated within 11 days. According to the judge - who said if he’d not been elected and an ordinary citizen he would have gone to jail.
