@Arlanymor one of my all time favourite films, Julie Christie and Terence Stamp also stunning

Mine too - I never get tired of it, it's such a masterpiece. 💖

Christopher Plummer in Sound Of Music. As a kid he was just Captain Von Trapp. I remember asking my mum when I was a lot older if he had always been that good looking 😆

Agree. I love the scene when he and Maria dance on the terrace. The electricity crackles.

ThePoliteLion · 01/11/2025 20:47

Robin Ellis in the 1970s Poldark adaptation.
He pops up in a hanging judge cameo in the recent remake too

Anthony Stewart Head as Giles in Buffy the vampire slayer!

I recently rewatched Godfather Part II and had forgotten that Al Pacino was absolutely smokin' as a youngster.

Paul Newman, in ‘The Long Hot Sumner’, which I think was his breakout movie.

He was stunning

firstofallimadelight · 01/11/2025 20:50

George clooney in Roseanne and young Richard Gere.

firstofallimadelight · 01/11/2025 20:51

Also Jared Leto in my so called life

Arlanymor · 01/11/2025 20:53

Oh and Oliver Reed when you rewatch Oliver! (ironically!)

Thought he was a horrible man back then - and how dare you kick a dog! But rewatching with my old lady eyes... oh my!

Still not ok with the dog situation but those big blues are mesmerising. (And hopefully dog was fully trained and acting and not remotely in any danger!)

CurlewKate · 01/11/2025 20:53

Robert Redford, David Soul and Anthony Andrews. I DEFINITELY have a type!

CalzoneOnLegs · 01/11/2025 20:54

@Arlanymor it IS a Masterpiece, I still have the VHS Version I can’t bear to part with it, I love everything about it ❤️ the opening sequence and music is just perfect.
you should come to Dorset, the filming locations have not changed at all

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 01/11/2025 20:54

I’m just here to put up a picture of James Mason.

Irene Bedard for me, probably my gay awakening now I look back.

@firstofallimadelight Richard Gere always looked like a Guinea Pig to me 🤣

I could not agree with you more - utter perfection! I definitely should find my way to Dorset - haven't been since I was 18 and my mum took me on a weekend away for my birthday because Thomas Hardy is my absolute favourite. I'm 47 next year - so it's been a while! How lovely that you live in Hardy country! 💚

@Arlanymor not exactly as I am in Poole but West Dorset about 40 minutes away, I’ve just remembered that genius scene on Weymouth beach where Bathsheba is having an emotional conversation with Troy and yet the viewer never gets to hear it. Just brilliant really. They filmed it well, leaving out modern buildings but the Victorian railings on the promenade and the seating are all still there.
you should definitely come on a FFTMC ‘Tour’
I also adore the scene where Bathsheba is throwing the grain in the air in slow motion.
I need to watch it again ❤️

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 01/11/2025 21:12

@Arlanymor I mean it is bad about the poor dog, but anything we should say about poor Nancy?

Dennis Quaid in the 90s - particularly in The Parent Trap. That was one of my comfort movies as a teen, and as far as I was concerned, he was just the dad. I watched it with my own DCs a few weeks ago, and I couldn't believe how hot he was!

You need to watch him in ‘The Big Easy’ then!

How brilliant to be so close and Poole is lovely - is there stlll that chainlink ferry? Probably dates me a bit, but I went to a Christmas party in Sandbanks once and caught the ferry. Was it called Bramble Bush or am I making that up?!

Oh you've brought back so many memories! The storm scene stands out for me - the weather being an extra character! But the grain scene too - where she spots that she is being sold a subpar product - amazing. You've given me some holiday inspiration for 2026!

I need to watch again too. 💜

The dad from twilight

Definitely this (if you mean Charlie)!. I was always team Edward as a kid and watched it recently and realised the dad was the fittest!

I was speaking as my 10 year old self watching at the time, who wanted to be a vet, and poor old Bullseye stood out to me. But yes of course, I agree, awful.
