I thought it showed remarkable good sense!

DuncinToffee · 28/11/2025 20:39

maybe it was subconscious Smile

Always important to bear in mind that Truth Social posts do not have the force of law and sometimes Trump just says he’s doing things and nothing actually happens.

"The Autopen is not allowed to be used if approval is not specifically given by the President of the United States".

OK, correct me if I'm wrong. When Joe used the autopen he was the POTUS, right? Gee, then he must have given himself permission to use it 🙄.

SCROTUS is such a fucking maroon.

That picture of the Fart was given a "sensitive content" classification and you had to click on it to see what it was.

And your problem with that is....? As far as I'm concerned any picture of him should carry a warning. Especially if one is or has recently eaten! 🤣

"The administration has examined a range of options for Venezuela, including seizing the country’s oil fields...
But the direct conversations between Mr. Trump and Mr. Maduro could be the beginning of an effort to create an off-ramp from an escalating use of force, though the administration appears intent on an outcome that requires Mr. Maduro to leave office "- New York Times

I am sorry to be stupid, but what has Venezuela, in particular, done to be singled out this way? Has their President been rude about or to the thin skinned orange narcissist?

They're guilty of being in possession of vast oil fields.

They're guilty of being in possession of vast oil fields.

And left weak by the the legacy of their brutal encounter with the (checks note) Spanish and Germans.

Much as the cossetted west may try to hide behind their fingers, there are squadrons of chickens looking for a roost. And China and Russia should avoid any smugness - they have Imperial legacies looking for a home.

“The Congress shall have Power To . . . provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States.”
—U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 8, clause 1
“The Congress shall have Power . . . To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
“To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;
“To provide and maintain a Navy;
“To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;
“To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;
“To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress”
—U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 8, clauses 11–16

The power to declare 'actual' war rests with Congress. Roosevelt's famous "Date of Infamy" speech was his speech to the joint houses requesting that they declare war on Japan after Pearl Harbor. The Gulf War was declared by Congress in 1991.

Now, that's not to say there isn't a way around that. Both Korea and Viet Nam were designated 'conflicts', not wars. And the '2nd Gulf not a War' was not declared by Congress but a result of Congress granting Dubya the authority to use military force in 2002's Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution. None of those were 'technically' wars, but God knows they looked like wars to the poor men (and women) who got shipped off and the families waiting at home for them!

SCROTUS already renamed the DOD as "Dept of War", which it was previously named up until 1947. He's bound and determined to be a capital letters 'War President' and won't want to settle for being a small letters 'conflict president'. Will he decide to violate the Constitution based on the 2024 SCOTUS decision on presidential immunity and declare war? He would only go before Congress if he knew he had enough votes to pass a war declaration or to get an authorization similar to Dubya's. War declaration only requires a simple majority of those present. I think authorization for military action requires a simple majority of both houses.

If only there was some sort of body to enforce the constitution.

I’m not an expert but can the President of the USA order the airspace of a third country to be closed.

And I’m not sure a TS post is the official way to announce it.

Until someone/something stops him, POTUS can do whatever he wants. Remember he can't break any law while in office.

Just read that Trump has been hitting the blacks and putting the colours on the table.

WELL, I am not an expert either but that's never stopped me before 😎. And I say the answer to that is NO.

He's used to running his business like a (wait for it...) dictatorship, issuing orders and having them instantly obeyed because people depended on his 'goodwill' for their jobs. He just doesn't seem to be able to understand that the USA is a democracy (actually, we're a republic) and the government doesn't work by presidential decree. And at least so far it doesn't. Just like he thinks that EOs have the force of law when they actually don't.

This is what makes him so 'fond' of dictators and dictatorships. And why he feels the need to govern by fear, as they do.
