God, I wish they'd bring back the Spira.

Me too! They were the best of the plain chocolate bars. Never understood why they got rid!

Vender- Worcester sauce flavour Wheat Crunchies

Shop/Canteen- sultana flapjack or an iced finger, still warm, with runny chocolate icing. And a tomato soup.

Aggieforme · 02/11/2025 13:22

Little chocolate teacakes for half a pence and Jamie Dodgers for 1p. Back in the seventies.

Wagon Wheels. This was in ye olden days when they were large and luscious. Not the pathetic specimens of today. 😢

DiscoBob · 02/11/2025 13:59

We only had a canteen and the only things I bought from there were tuna rolls and chips with coleslaw..or salad cream. the school chips were different to any other chip I've had. Really greasy but in a weird way, but really tasty!

Usually spent my dinner money on going halves on a pack of ten benson with my mate! 🤣

At one school, Frazzles crisps, other simlar cheap crisps (basket, hedgehog?) and Opal Fruits and orange Chewits.

At another school cupcakes which the elderly nun had made and sold as tuck.

Really? People can't help having a lisp. Uncalled for. But we won't agree and that's ok.

Ah used to love Texan bars!

Showing my age here but loved penny blacks licorice chews, and sweet tobacco and sweet cigarettes! Yes, small children used to emulate smoking in the late 60s and it was quite normal! 😀

Loved the chocolate cigarettes that came in soft packet and looked exactly the same as a ciggy.
The hard ones with the red tip were good for pretending to smoke
Because we didn't get sweets often we bought sweets that lasted like Texan bars, penny caramels, coo candy etc.

Clevs · 06/11/2025 23:24

We didn’t have a vending machine at school, but after swimming lessons it was either a Wham Bar or Sherbert for 10p and a pineapple & grapefruit drink out of the Max Pax machine for 25p.

LuluWearsATutu · 06/11/2025 23:26

Drifter and S&V Squares.

80smonster · 06/11/2025 23:28

Pizza rolls.

So my sixth form common room had a hot drink dispenser that inexplicably had Bovril as one of the options. And I got completely hooked on mini cheddars dipped in Bovril.
