At my primary school the dinner Nanny’s sold jacket potato’s for 5p at break time.
you got half a hot potato covered in cheap margarine, wrapped in a green paper towel.

I absolutely loved them!!!!

I have to know, is dinner Nannies a typo or is that what they were known as? We had dinner ladies, never heard of nannies!

Drifter

CrustyBread1977 · 01/11/2025 01:19

Five-finger KitKats and flavoured Toffos.

Whirlpoolducksausage · 01/11/2025 01:45

Back when I was at school there used to be hard boiled chocolate flavour lollipops. I loved them.

At my school they weren't sold with with the rest of the sweets. You had to buy them from the head mistresses office. I used to go and visit her everyday buy my lollies and stay and have a little chat with her.

Spira - we would use them as straws to drink hot chocolate from the vending machine.

BunfightBetty · 01/11/2025 02:10

Frazzles, cheese and onion Ringos or salt and vinegar Seyshells. Also a cuppa soup and a freshly baked hot roll with melted butter.

I’d forgotten about Drifters. They were delicious. Why were they stopped?!

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 01/11/2025 03:36

Tudor salt & vinegar crisps, Marathon bars, Kit-Kats and Caramac.

SilkiePenguin · 01/11/2025 04:05

Didn't have a vending machine but loved jamborees - deep fried jam sandwiches covered in sugar.

EdinaTheConfessor · 01/11/2025 04:15

Cheese and onion pasties from the canteen. Or a spicy bean burger with a thick slice of cheddar.

A Boost or a Wispa Gold from the vending machine.

WhiteCold · 01/11/2025 05:09

Used to be Sunny Delight that was the craze when I was younger which is now banned I think.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/11/2025 07:30

Jam sandwhich fritters, dipped in sugar. In the days when school children were largely underweight.

RuthW · 01/11/2025 08:20

Football crazy crisps. 4 1/2p

Ohgoonthenanotheronefortheroad · 01/11/2025 08:31

God, I wish they'd bring back the Spira.

MB bars don't know if they were UK wide or only a Scottish thing

Sausagescanfly · 01/11/2025 23:23

Fruit polos and nice and spicy niknaks.

sesquipedalian · 01/11/2025 23:25

When I was in the sixth form (many years ago)there was a vending machine that sold hot drinks - I loved the hot chocolate. 4p a cup - happy days!

captainoctopus · 01/11/2025 23:32

A Jamboree bag or an ice cream cone. The nuns used to make the ice cream themselves and it was yummy.

I saw them in a sweet shop a few weeks ago. I’m not sure that I’ve ever had one but I’ll have to try them when I visit it again.

MrsFantastic · 02/11/2025 13:10

I went to school in Australia. Summer Rolls (a kind of nougat chocolate bar).

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 02/11/2025 13:15

We had a ‘healthy’ tuck shop and my favourites were Sesame Snaps and carob drops, both very sweet, to be consumed surreptitiously in class. Carob drops always remind me of maths. Sesame Snaps were too loud to eat in lesson though.
