When I was a teen I found a sex toy in my mum’s drawer. I shouldn’t have been snooping.

It made me think of her differently, and I felt a bit weird about it for a bit.

I’m over it now, I think 🤔

They aren't dead but found my dads explicit convos to a random. But I know the background to that.

My mum left her fb logged in on my laptop and she told my aunt shed won upwards of 10k and she wasnt telling me incase i wanted money when I had a baby and was scrambling to find money down the couch to even get a loaf of reduced bread.

Then my mum telling anyone who would listen that im an alcoholic because I didn't answer the phone to her as was out shopping.

I think perhaps you’re taking all this a bit too seriously.

Do you genuinely not realise I was being flippant?

No - seemed like genuine idiocy.

I didn't see them but before my Dad died, my Mum and him ceremoniously burned the letters they wrote to each other when he was overseas as they never wanted us to read them. Obviously, I would have LOVED to have read them but I'd have probably regretted it.

Oh no! I'm sure there would have been some sex stuff but you could have skimmed over those parts.. they would have been syuch an interesting insight about them

Nope, you got it very wrong.

I have hands. But they dont work very well due to disability. Am I allowed sex toys or are disabled people not meant to enjoy sex ?

Where's the eye roll emoji when you need it? Get a grip.

Her post seemed fine to me.

Crotchless knickers and a very "younger mum" picture of her laying on the bed with her boobs out (15 year old me was disgusted - my parents could only ever have had sex once right?) 🤣

Is he still alive? This is sickening! Xx

I just googled, he died a couple of years ago.

My grandmas notebook. She moved into a home when she was 97 and kept a notebook where she could write her thoughts and what visitors she had.
Her last 3 entries:
1/ I am so sad I will die never having known the physical love of a man (she was actually my step gran and had married my grandad later in life) 🙁
2/ Rodney from Only Fools and Horses visited today (he didn’t) 🤣
3/ I am looking forward to seeing mummy again (her mum died in childbirth) 😢
God love her - she lasted a year in that home. I still think it was so sad she died a virgin and never knew her mum. But the Rodney thing will never fail to make me laugh

pollyglot · 31/10/2025 04:43

My mother's diaries. She used them as a weapon...shouting and abusing us, and our DC. She would take the current volume out, ostentatiously, and write in it following any of her tantrums. Reading them after her death was simply heartbreaking - the misrepresentation of the event, how my DS and I had cornered her, shouting in her face, making her cry, nasty comments about our figures, hair, looks, parenting...she was the permanent victim, bullied by her kids who have had to have years of counselling from our childhood experiences.

What is wrong with calling a perversion a perversion? As long as it is legal, it is up to the person to decide what they do. It does not stop it being a perversion though.

I'd love to know what your definition of 'perversion' is. And I think you need to get out more.

The ‘official documents’ showing my dad’s ownership of a business in China and other ‘assets’. It was all nonsense. We knew he’d been involved with scammers but not realised to what extent he’d been sold on as a mark to a worldwide network of scumbags.

Everyone has sex toys, they aren't really the eye opener you think they are.

No, not everyone does. I got my first sex toy in my late 40s. Yes, they are quite common and no big deal generally and no, not everyone has them.

And yes, most would be perturbed by finding their mother's sex toys, no matter how free spirited or progressive they consider themselves.

Also, she was a teenager at the time.

You really didn't think this comment through.

I was on holiday with my mum, stepdad and stepsister in a family room (2 double beds) When they thought we were asleep, I realised that my mum and stepdad decided to have sex when I heard the words ‘it just slips in like a snake doesn’t it’

Unpleasant memory unlocked 🤣

😆😂

I have much more of my 1st child's stuff than 3rd child's.
Nothing to do with love or favouritism - all to do with my waning interest in (and time/space for) keeping everything.
It's not a reflection of my relationship with my children, more that I just had more time on my hands with my first.

You had more time on your hands to simply save stuff from school for your 1st child but not your 3rd? You don’t have time to pick a bit of work up and put it In a box? I mean they may never realise but I know we certainly did. I’ve got lots of photos of me as a baby but my little sister who’s only 20 months younger doesn’t and we’ve always wondered why.

EleanorReally · 31/10/2025 05:19

need to do a bit of swedish death cleaning.
i have drawers of my dc's things.
i hope i have equal amounts but may well not

Toydrum · 31/10/2025 05:21

It was a dawning realisation for me, nothing specific, that my mother neither wanted me nor liked me.

LillyPJ · 31/10/2025 05:21

Deadringer · 30/10/2025 21:14

Yes. My mam was never a sentimental, emotional type of person, she could even have been described as cold, but after she died we discovered that she had carefully kept every school report, every certificate, every record of us dc, which might not sound remarkable except that there was 14 of us, the eldest of whom had moved out some 50 years earlier, and we lived in a tiny council house with very little storage. She also left us a beautiful letter, telling us how much she loved all of us, and thanking us for caring for her in her old age.

This is one of the most touching things I've ever read - thank you. My mother was also rather cold and unemotional. The only time I remember her hugging me was just after my dad died. When she died 7 years later, and we were clearing the house, we didn't find any mementos of our childhoods (there were 3 of us) other than a drawer of jumbled family photos. I found just one diary. She'd kept it while on a recent holiday and I thought at last I might find some of her thoughts and emotions in there. But no - it was a 'Tues 4th Oct - breakfast at 9.30. Left hotel at 10.40 for coach trip to the waterfall. Cloudy weather but dry. Sardine sandwich (£1.49) for lunch...' sort of diary and very dull to read. She did have very neat handwriting though!

deararethymountains · 31/10/2025 05:28

Years ago, I knew a young man who came home unexpectedly on a night he was supposed to be staying over at a friend's house. As he walked up the stairs he heard his mother say to his father (from the bedroom) "Feed it into me, ya big hairy fucker". Totally traumatised him 😂

SomewhatAnnoyed · 31/10/2025 05:43

RaraRachael · 30/10/2025 19:30

I also found a packet of condoms in my dad's washbag on holiday. He came in, snatched them from me and gave me such a hot arse I could hardly sit down. I was 14.

Before that, my sister and I had found dad's birth certificate which showed his parents had only been married 6 months before he was born. No big deal nowadays but in our 60s village it was scandalous.

Going off topic - but I’m assuming he smacked you (hard) for just innocently coming across them?

It’s amazing how we as adults can still speak so lightly of getting hit by our parents, often laughing about it or shaking our head perplexedly in a lot of cases at the injustice of it all (in scenarios like this one) yet if you were to hear of a child being treated the same way now it would be a call to social services and judgement and social exclusion by other parents.

It was ‘different times’ but the outcome is still the same.

What is a specialist sex toy?!

This particular one is an “eye opener” for the poster’s husband.
