Is Reeves the next one to go?

Her not getting whatever licence she needed doesn’t sound particularly corrupt but somewhat incompetent.

Apparently Starmer is reviewing ‘new information’. If there’s even a whiff of sleeze or being economical with the truth she’s got to go too.

For someone who banged on about sleeze and standards, Starmer isn’t doing well with his ministers.

I think any conversation with her senior civil servant husband might be a bit terse tonight.

His lack of taking care of the ‘mental load’ (dismissed by so many on MN) may well cost his wife her job in one of the Great Offices of State.

Reeves is an honest robot. She may well be wrong on the economy, but her husband Joicey dropped the ball here.

Noodledog · 30/10/2025 19:09

She'll just be replaced by someone even worse, though. I know that sounds impossible, but I'm sure Starmer could manage it!

PropertyD · 30/10/2025 19:11

Surely Reeves has a team of people that help look after her to ensure that she is squeaky clean on this sort of thing or is life admin something for the little people?

If any of us had claimed we didn’t know we needed a licence and then said the letting agent was meant to be doing it do you honestly think that they would be let off?

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/10/2025 19:13

JackJarvisEsq · 30/10/2025 17:57

Nah, it’ll be someone else’s fault 🙄

It was someone else's fault and they have admitted it.

BlindSpotForCats · 30/10/2025 19:13

How is she honest? She lied on her CV. She campaigned for the LL licenses to be brought in. She admitted (after lying about it) that she did know she needed one. She has gone for the jugular for other MPs when they have fucked up (knowingly or otherwise). She needs to be held account.

Pjnow · 30/10/2025 19:15

The licence thing is, I'm sure not a stackable offence, although a bit stupid, I had no idea you needed one to rent a former home and if an agent told me I didn't, I'd take their word for it.

I think the lying about her CV and that weird episode where she cried all day in HoC (did we ever didn't about what that was about?) were bigger reasons for her to go.

I suspect they'll let her deliver the budget and it will all depend how that's received. Personally, I think she's been doing OK as Chancellor.

taxguru · 30/10/2025 19:16

Sadcafe · 30/10/2025 18:15

From the information put out, it does seem that although she knew it was needed, the letting agent offered to get it then didn’t, so, although she should probably have chased it up sooner, it does actually sound on this occasion as if she is not to blame

You're missing that she lied in saying she didn't know she needed one.

What does being "let off" mean? No, there'd be a fine, which RR will also have to pay. I can't think of any job where you'd be sacked.

mentalblank · 30/10/2025 18:54

Maybe it's just me, but it seems completely insane to me to sack a senior politician because the letting agent that managed their rental property was supposed to get a license, and they didn't, despite saying that they would. Even for those who really dislike Rachel Reeves, do you think that getting rid of a Chancellor in situations like this is a sensible way to run our economy?

The gravity of the multiple lies she has told make her unfit for office.

BasilParsley · 30/10/2025 19:20

I think a lot of it hangs on whether the rental is in just her name or joint names. If it's joint names and her husband said "don't worry dear, the estate agent and I will sort it" but didn't actually, then I think she should be given a bit of leeway...

suburburban · 30/10/2025 19:23

Hope so

Garamousalata · 30/10/2025 19:25

I knew about having a licence. She should have made sure she was properly informed. She should go.

EasternStandard · 30/10/2025 19:25

Boomer55 · 30/10/2025 17:59

Hopefully, she will go. But she won’t be fired yet.

its suddenly come out that she and her husband exchanged emails about the lack of a license.

She’s admitted she did know she needed one.

So they did know. Dubious.

It's not at all dubious but if you want to sink into conspiracy theories then go ahead. You make it very clear that you don't like this current Government and constantly post to smear and attack. Try better.

The matter has been cleared up. Now time for Patel and Badenoch to issue apologies.

Pjnow · 30/10/2025 19:41

Oh. If she lied about not knowing she'll have to go. Why are these people so so stupid?? Of course it would come out if she falsely said the agency gave bad advice.

Any why, knowing that would you not just get the licence?!

Littleoakhorn · 30/10/2025 19:43

It’s a banal error, not some devious attempt to cheat the system.

You make it very clear how much you do like Labour. You’re in a shrinking pool so enjoy.

God I hope not.

I'm critical when criticism is needed and you obviously choose to ignore those posts. However, you crop up like a bad penny on every thread that's about immigration.

How do you feel after Reform lost Caerphilly?

The matter is far from cleared up. The people who need to do better are the Labour party - a bunch of despicable, incompetent liars led by a weak coward.

You must have the wrong poster, you are probably following someone else with this odd investment.

I’m glad Labour tanked in Caerphilly and hope it’s replicated.

If you’re angry at Labour for losing take it up with them. Plus I think the bad penny part is your self reflection.

Labour lost Caerphilly. The party who has completely destroyed Wales.

It must be exhausting living life like you do.

Take a walk, make friends and enjoy life.

Gowlett · 30/10/2025 19:55

They all used to get away with this shite years ago…
Now with modern life, emails, texts, etc, it’s all there.

My life is utterly fabulous. I have a wonderful circle of amazing friends and I'm never exhausted because I'm full of energy and zest for life. I just have no time for incompetence, liars and underachievers.
