Ahhh anyone elses children just pains in the butt. I've worked all week and was of work today. Wanted to have a nice day with my two girls do some Halloween baking etc. They have done NOTHING but bicker and fight over the smallest things just popped into asda to get some baking goodies and don't know why I bother!!! Feeling like a total failure as a mum now, they are 11 and 9 it's just everything is a fight, breathing to loud eating to loud she looked at me 😭I've felt guilty all week for working and today is now ruined. They are always like this no matter what we do, had enough today 🥺

You’re absolutely not a failure, so you can stop thinking like that straight away. Mum guilt is crap, but you’ve got nothing to feel guilty about. Kids can be horrible. And yours are at the age where both of them would happily shove the other under a passing bus. It’s not just yours. Bickering kids are pretty standard. Only if anyone else tries to pick on them will you see them band together. And then, ten minutes later, they’ll be bickering again. They can’t help themselves because the breathing that one of them is doing is specifically designed to annoy the other. But they will grow out of it.

Forget the baking for today. Go and run yourself a bubble bath, grab a book and tell them you don’t want to hear from either of them unless there’s a fire, flood or blood.

You could also threaten a series of punishments, like tying their ankles together (three legged race style) and making them jog round the park until they learn to get on. Or making them hold hands for an hour. Or have you seen that photo of the two kids wearing one big t shirt with ‘This is our Getting Along t shirt’ written on it? I mean, they don’t know that you wouldn’t do it, but I suspect the fear might be enough.
