Puff pastry bloated packaging?!

Sorry to post here but urgent

puff pastry (jusroll) going out of date tomorrow

the plastic wrapper was completely bloated and swollen, causing the cardboard packaging to swell too.

I’ve whacked it in the oven but I’m about to feed four kids with it and don’t want to make them sick! The recesses of my brain remind me that swollen packaging is a sign of spoilage for meat - is it safe to feed them this?!

it smelt fine so I didn’t think anything of it but now it’s in the oven I’m concerned

Absolutely not. It’s a sign of microorganisms producing gas meaning it’s likely spoiled.

i'm pretty bold with use by dates and dodgy looking food, but still through out a bloated pastry pack when I had one recently (same brand).

I wouldnt use it and I'm not overly cautious. It is a definite sign of spoilage.

I am a "just scrape off the mould" kind of gal but I would not touch that with a barge pole.
