Help how do I open bonnet: Ford Focus Ecoboost (2015)

Can anyone help…I can’t find the lever that is apparently “under the dashboard, near the footwell on the drivers side” to open the bonnet. I’ve looked online and that is the guidance. The manual just shows an odd picture. I need to top up water/coolant levels.

I have opened the bonnet before but ages ago and I can’t work it out. Really embarrassed but if anyone has a similar car and can help would be v grateful.

In my Kuga it was near the passenger seat

In my old Ford it was kind of under the dashboard as close to the door as possible.

Side of the chair on passenger seat

I used to have a 2017 model, it’s on the passenger side

Thank you. I saw a lever near the passenger seat just as I posted. But pulling it doesn’t seem to do anything?!

I’m going to have to live down to every stereotype about women and cars and ask someone at the local garage for help. Cringing right now, can’t believe I can’t do this.

Are you sure that pulling the lever doesn’t just pop the bonnet slightly and then you lift it yourself?

Eastie77Returns · 30/10/2025 11:10

Oh I just pulled the lever really hard and heard a click…think that is it. Thank you all. I was convinced it was under the dashboard because off all the YouTube videos🙄

MN hive mind to the rescue. Now have to work out if I have the right Coolant (neighbour gave it to me)

In mine you had to slide hand under the gap in the raised bonnet (which is what the lever does) and push or pull on something else to fully release

Yes sorry I knew the lever would only pop the bonnet. I just couldn’t find the lever!

It will on on either side of the footwell, not easy to see but you should feel a lever, you will hear the bonnet open. Don’t be embarrassed going to the garage if you need to, most will be happy to help.

If it ever gets stuck. Just get someone to gently press down on the front of the bonnet while you pull the lever.

I used to have one of these. You had to pull it and you hear a pop as the bonnet releases.

Then you need to lift the bonnet up slightly and release a catch underneath to free it.

As someone else said, if it doesn't open with the release lever then you need to push down on the bonnet while pulling it.

I actually broke the handle trying to release it once. You can get new handles and fit them for about £10 on ebay. Or pay £250 for a garage to fix.

I have a similar age Focus and it’s on the passenger side. I assume the manual was written for left hand drive cars, and they haven’t thought to update that bit.
