Microwave rice

Hi! I tried the food/recipes forum but it wouldn’t load and said “something’s gone wrong” 😑

I’ve just cooked a lovely chilli and as it’s calorie counted, I’ve portioned the rest out for meals for another day. My question is, can I put half a pouch of unheated microwave rice in with each portion and then freeze? I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be ok, and I also can’t find a definitive answer online. All I’ve seen is that you can’t freeze the unopened pouches.

thanks!

I don't know for sure but I can't see why not. I often batch cook brown rice and freeze it in portions, and I'm still here to tell the tale.
Just whack it in the freezer quickly once you've opened the pouch.

We regularly freeze half packs of unheated microwave rice. It will be fine.

Perfect, thank you!! I’ve actually done some Meal Prep. I should have filmed it for the TikTok! 🤣

You can, but I wouldn't. The delicious chilli you made will take a lot longer to reheat than the rice, so your rice will be overcooked every time. I make batches of chill and freeze the chilli in measured portions, and keep my pouches of micro rice separately, freezing the 2nd half of each pouch if it will be more than a day before I need it.

If you don't care about over cooking, do make sure your chilli is fridge-cold before adding the rice to it.

It’s bean chilli, not meat so it shouldn’t take as long, but I will remember that @FenceBooksCycle . I don’t want stodgy, overcooked rice!

@Zippidydoodah I don't suppose you'd fancy sharing your chilli recipe? I haven't got a good veggie recipe.
