only 4 here at late 40s but string friendships that have lasted over 2 decades so feel secure and see often

3 friends in touch with regularly, another occasional messaging. Am 47

angelcake20 · 29/10/2025 09:53

3 at 53, 2 undergrad and one postgrad. We live near enough to meet fairly regularly or we wouldn’t be close. Others on Facebook but only see in larger groups.

None of them. I’m 36.

Why do you think that is ? Do you live really far away ?

My life long best friend was the first person I met at uni digs in 1989 xx

BrownFlower2 · 29/10/2025 10:04

2 at 43. Talk on the telephone every couple of months and see them about 4 times a year.

user1476613140 · 29/10/2025 10:05

Early 40s now. None.

gingercat02 · 29/10/2025 10:08

One and a half, one still friends, one FB friend but still in touch. There were 4 of us, the 4th died several years ago.
I'm still bff with my 5 female friends from my early 20s post uni. One I work with, one lives in the same area and we see each other regularly, the other 3 live a couple of hours away but we see each other a few times a year.
I'm 56

FurForksSake · 29/10/2025 10:08

None and I’ve been three times. 43.

CoffeeAndCakeBringMeJoy · 29/10/2025 10:09

Mid-forties.

One group of former housemates, scattered across the country but try to meet up once each year.

Another group of friends where we try to meet up, but they prefer to include all of the DHs and all of the DCs, which makes arranging anything very difficult. I would be happy to meet without them; none of the DHs were at uni with us, so it feels a bit forced when we’re all together, and the DCs don’t really know each other and are all well past the stage of meeting and then immediately playing together.

A few others who I’m friends with on Facebook, but haven’t seen them in person in years.

BCBird · 29/10/2025 10:10
  1. I'm 56. The one I see regularly. Known each other 30 years.. Did teacher training together
Toddlerteaplease · 29/10/2025 10:11

None. I never found my tribe at uni. I’m 44

Pieceofpurplesky · 29/10/2025 10:13

Five. We don't catch up often as all over the world, but we keep in touch via a lively WhatsApp group.

DelphiniumBlue · 29/10/2025 10:15

I’m 66, I have a friend from primary school, another from secondary school who I see every few months, but none from university, although I am still friends with a few people I met in my teens, and from when the DC were young ( now 25-33).

SoReadyFor · 29/10/2025 10:16

Three of us. Two of these more than me because they work in same field still. But consider friends and enjoy catching up when we can.

Kittencuddler · 29/10/2025 10:19

HillOf · 29/10/2025 09:21

Of undergraduate friends, only DH and one other, Most of my university friends are from my postgraduate years — probably ten, including my still-closest friends, though we’re all scattered internationally. I’m 53.

How often do you get to see each other then if you’re all international ?

Two people, and I'm 45. They're not friends with each other and I only see them occasionally.

Sonolanona · 29/10/2025 10:21

Two. I'm 57. Both in different countries but we manage to meet up every few years. Mostly FB updates but it's nice to watch us all getting older and seeing our kids grow up..and now grandchildren arriving!

Brightbluesomething · 29/10/2025 10:23

Only one and we reconnected a few years ago as we now work for the same company. Plus one from school that I saw regularly at Uni. I studied away from home and moved across the country afterwards. This was before social media, WhatsApp groups etc so distance is a factor.

kshaw · 29/10/2025 10:23

i am 40, lived with 5 girls first year, all still really good friends, more distant with one but still friends. and 1 off of my course, still really close!
did a post grad at 28 and not in touch with any of them

ladybirdsanchez · 29/10/2025 10:23

There are quite a few that I'm still in touch with via FB/Strava, and one I exchange Christmas cards with, but no one I see regularly. I went to uni quite far away and I very rarely go to that city now, so friendships drifted. I'm early 50s.

spoonbillstretford · 29/10/2025 10:24

One. In touch with another. Sad that I lost touch with a couple of others years ago. Still have five or six mates from school though who I see regularly. I'm 50.

jollygoose · 29/10/2025 10:28

Still close with 6 all good friends we regularly share weekends away and now all mid forties

Kittencuddler · 29/10/2025 10:28

Wonder how many friendships people feel in contact with or connected to is due to social media
thets actually helped them remain in some sort of contact

HedwigIsMySpiritAnimal · 29/10/2025 10:29
