Having dithered and saved for ever I'm desperate for new furniture. It would be much easier to choose what I wanted online but really worried about making costly mistake! If you have done this were you pleased and was it comfortable? Any pointers and recommendations welcome please.

Unless you are able to find out whether others have the sofa you’re looking at and can tell you that it’s comfortable, I wouldn’t buy online.

Dont buy online. Sofas are like beds, you can't tell how comfortable they are until you try them.
Go into an independent furniture shop and try them out. My sofa is a Parker Knoll. Very comfortable. Will last twice as long as a cheap sofa.

What I have done in the past with second hand furniture is to buy an good brand item, in excellent condition, and replace the seat cushions-as long as they zip
off the covers. That’s safe online, as you are specifying the seat that you want from an upholsterer. Costs about £100 to change them. I did that with a Multiyork sofa once.

(Other than that, I agree I wouldn’t buy online).

Don't do it! I spent a £1000 on a sofa online and now I'm stuck with a sofa I hate the arms are rock hard and the back cushions never sit right I wish I'd brought one in person!!

You do have more rights if you buy online due to the distance selling regs. I would go in store to sit on sofas and make my pick, then place my order online.
