Britain just has crap delivery services.

Been thinking this for a while. Then the thread on the shitness of Yodel.

I ordered something from America. I got tracking updates all the time from USPS. Across 2 planes and the Atlantic. Then it arrived in Britain. Into customes no further update. No info for 5 days.

Also the US postal service I discovered in my fury has an app. You can see all mail posted and on its way to you. Track it at any moment and see photos of it. Fucking carrier pigeons in the UK. Or horse and cart. Imagine the Royal Mail having an app like that!

My favourite thing about the UK system at the moment, is that all of my parcels are just left on my doorstep in full view of the road.

Even if I’m in, they don’t knock.

You just have to hope they’re there when you get home / open the door.

Slightly stressful getting a 9am notification of a £400 parcel on your doorstep, knowing you won’t be back for 9 hours.

RaraRachael · 28/10/2025 12:04

I must admit we're very lucky. Never have issues with any delivery companies - round here it's mainly Evri and occasionally DPD. Our Evri guy is brilliant. He always comes at around the same time as he knows when people are in and which neighbours to leave stuff with.

thisishowloween · 28/10/2025 12:05

We have very very few issues - both DH and I have multiple parcels delivered each week for our jobs and nothing has ever gone missing or not turned up.

Sometimes stuff is delayed but it always shows on the tracking or we get a text message about it.

BedlingtonFloof · 28/10/2025 12:06

I must be very lucky too. Pretty much all of she courier services deliver safely and on time where I am, even the dreaded Yodwl and Evei. In fact, our Evri driver is a lovely man who always goes above and beyond.

ResusciAnnie · 28/10/2025 12:09

I haven’t had an issue with a delivery for anything for literally years. Since Covid it’s all been so much simpler - haven’t had to go to the sorting office or rearrange a delivery since 2019 basically 😁 bought something from the states end of August and arrived start of sept, zero issues, zero extra charges 🤷‍♀️

Dragonscaledaisy · 28/10/2025 12:10

We live n the middle of nowhere and still manage to have great couriers. My experience of the US postal service is pretty negative.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/10/2025 12:13

But why has my tracking just stopped in U.K. with no updates?

I have good Evri and Yodel couriers. But the tracking is still rubbish.

Presumably because it’s still in customs?

partygarden · 28/10/2025 12:19

Im not overly invested in Rotal Mail, but they do have tracking. Maybe not an app, but you can track your order on their website. Same with most courier companies in uk?
Your issue sounds like it lies with shipping from USA to uk, customs delays are literally outside of any courier companies control. Just bad luck you’ve had a delay.
once the goods are cleared, you should have an update. You have to think of the millions of parcels being moved around, internationally and regionally, on occasion someone’s parcel is going to get lost/delayed.
You also get what you pay for- yodel are like 10p a delivery aren’t they 😂(I’m joking but you get my point, they’re cheap and so don’t invest in tech or employees like they should).

mamagogo1 · 28/10/2025 12:20

The issue isn’t the delivery services its customs, Royal Mail updates only once it’s released to them. I would actually say our mail is better than the usa’s typically having lived in both countr

JDM625 · 28/10/2025 12:26

We have a mix of good/bad deliveries. Royal Mail have been great.
We have cameras, so if I see a driver, I'll go to the front door to save THEM time. One amazon man recently saw me standing with the front door open, then hurled the package towards the door- but it landed in a massive, muddy puddle. 😡

BoothsRun · 28/10/2025 12:27

I ordered an item from America a few weeks ago and there was next to no tracking until it was practically on my doorstep.

smilingfanatic · 28/10/2025 12:30

I send about 1500 parcels a year with Royal Mail tracked or special delivery. On average, I claim for lost parcels 2-3 times a year. I think that's pretty incredible.

waitingforthehallmarkedman · 28/10/2025 12:40

Royal mail do have a tracking app though as do all the couriers? I have one for Yodel, Inpost, DPD, Evri etc.

RaraRachael · 28/10/2025 12:43

I've just had a parcel from Evri. Yesterday I got an update to say it would arrive today then another one this morning to say it would be between 9 and 11.

HoppityBun · 28/10/2025 12:47

Perhaps it depends where you live. I know my local Evri driver, not as a friend but she’s been delivering for years: she says that the drivers get blamed for what happens in the warehouses. She’s sensible and careful and I trust her. I also am familiar with my Royal mail post office workers. One seems to deliver parcels and a different one delivers letters, but sometimes it’s the same person.

I’m not that keen on Parcel anforce and I prefer Royal Mail. Having said that, the actual Royal Mail app is useless and you seem to have to enter each time where you want your safe place to be and I just cannot get it to save permanently. But I’d be surprised if things are fabulous in other countries.

DPD and DHL seem fine to me, provided you remember to update that way you want a parcel to be left.

Yodel is rubbish and nobody round here seems to use it, thank goodness.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/10/2025 12:47

Royal Mail is great around here- if it’s an option I alway use it for deliveries, and Click and Drop for sending parcels. Amazon just dumps on the doorstep, but at least that’s OK here. Evri has been hopeless, I avoid as far as possible.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/10/2025 13:01

Yodel are shite - lobbed my parcel over next doors fence never to be seen again. Empty property

😲they’ve just be fined zillions of millions for not delivering on time.

I NEVER use them. Our local mp has to intervene over delivery times once. It improved briefly and then went back to 2 deliveries a week.

I find they're terrible for delivering letters, but packages always come on time, so I'm happy to use them for that.

Was the fine for letters or packages, do you know?

MaJoady · 28/10/2025 14:04

Another one who thinks our delivery services are generally great in the UK.

My friend in the States doesn't even get next day delivery with Amazon Prime, and we take that completely for granted, even in rural locations

fishtank12345 · 28/10/2025 14:09

Agree and dpd stole an expensive camera from me. They only delivered one thing out of 3 they stole the camera and sd card from what I remember, one of the delivery drivers said they had that issue...Was brutal trying to get a refund !

Castiela · 28/10/2025 14:10

I spent time in country where while you put in all your details you still got "Send location" whatsapps from drivers and when you asked when are they coming it was "today, tomorrow, maybe in an hour, maybe tomorrow same time" all in one message 😂
I have no issue in uk

heartsinvisiblefury · 28/10/2025 14:12

It’s Amazon who can’t follow delivery instructions that annoy me - expensive items ordered? No worries we’ll just ignore your safe place for parcels and leave them on the doorstep on a main road. Every single time.

Is that not due to the size of the US though? I mean a driver can pretty much reach anywhere in the U.K. within 12 hours.

Cant do that in US.
