Need Help - Emergency Replacement denture

amibeingaknob · 27/10/2025 20:57

Hi all,

I have a denture on my bottom teeth - two front bottom ones - Im awaiting dental implants (long story). Anyway, the denture has been lost (long story), just, and I am completely panicking. I have an NHS dentist. What do people think will happen? My boyfirend hasn't even seen me without it, let alone work colleagues. No one sees me without it - I look bloody awful.

Does anyone know what the likely timeline will be? Will they get right on it? Will it be quick because they obviously already have impressions and htey will just make another mould? Or am i best to just go private first thing.

Thanks. Ive been in tears over this, I look completely hideous.

You'll need to have a new set of impressions, but the lab can usually turn it around pretty uickly (overnight if they can) You'll need to speak to your dentist first thing to see if they have space to fit you in though.

amibeingaknob · 27/10/2025 21:30

why would i need a new set of impressions though? and is it overnight if its NHS?

What she said. (And you could wear a mask at work).

Face mask!

AutumnAllTheWay · 27/10/2025 21:33

Blame covid, face mask.

If nhs cant do it quickly, a good private one should be able to.

I feel for you.

Because teeth can subtly move and sometimes the casts from your last denture gets a bit chipped during the process of making it.

NHS labs can do overnight, but the practice has to have space to fit you in, morning day one for imps, afternoon day two to fit it (make sure it's not too tight/rubs etc)

Ok so Ive managed to get an online appointment for Friday (I will beg them this morning for today) - but worst case scenerio they could do it friday, get it fitted Monday? Thats still awful cos it means I can't leave house or work til then. I work partly remotely and I cant say my cameras busted (sooo unprofessional). Im also so so embarrassed around new live-in boyfriend.

I hate myself for how vein Im being but I look awful. I have a very big wide smile and I just wnat to crawl under the duvet right now.

First world problems hey.

If you can afford to do it, the fastest way to replace the missing denture is to visit a Clinical Dental Technician. Not all dental techs can make a denture without including the dentist but some have additional qualifications which is why you need to google the full title Clinical Dental Technician. If you are in driving distance of Grimsby there is an excellent Lab called AC dental . The dentists I work with often send their cases straight there .

Have they still got your impressions, my private dentist gave mine to me as they don't store them. I have had a temporary denture made in a few days with an impression done before having teeth out. How long ago did you have your denture, if it was fairly recently your old impression will probably be fine and not hardly any difference to a new one

A year ago. Will that be ok?

if they are only a year old just use the same impressions, mine got a bit more ill fitting after more than 5 years in the past

amibeingaknob · 28/10/2025 06:45

Ok so I just ask to use the same impressions then, that should speed things up I hope. Ive left them a begging message and they open at 8am so Ill get ready and hope they say I can come right away.
Im considering just rocking up there at 8am? Im a 45 min drive. Basically just saying I cant work so please please fit me in? Is that a good/bad idea? Im pretty desperate.

If I have to go the private route what do people think im talking? Its a 2 tooth denture (front, bottom). I have 1k in savings total.

I had upper and lower with more teeth in about 2021 and I vaguely remember them being about £600 each, they charged for each extra tooth iirc so two shouldn't be too bad. My dentist charges from £950 for a full upper or lower at the moment.

amibeingaknob · 28/10/2025 07:15

Any dentist or dental receptionists here? Should I rock up at 8am cry and beg (that would be easy cos Im really upset about it) or just call at 8am? I really need to leave soon if im driving there. Whats the best plan?

Did you get an appointment?

amibeingaknob · 28/10/2025 09:41

You won't believe it. My boyfriend found it - stuck to a towel!!!!! I have absolutely zero idea how it got there. I was just about to leave, having a massive meltdown, and he came running out all proud with it. Grim, but still.

Do you know I got quote back privately for 1200 and a 4 week turnaround!!!! Im unbelievably stoked. We turned the house apart last night and this morning. I barely slept. Quite the drama.

Hooray!

RedRiverShore5 · 28/10/2025 09:58

That good, I would hate to lose a denture, you maybe left it on the side and it got swept up in the towel. I dropped mine in the loo once, luckily it was flushed but there was still a lot of disinfecting done.

amibeingaknob · 28/10/2025 10:07

Well ive had the worst flu, havent eaten in days, so Im sick and feverish. I honestly don't remember what I did with it which is weird. Ive been so madly emotional about it too (probably mostly down to sickness). Tearing your hosue apart is no fun at the best of times, but worse when you are running a fever and full of snot. My boyfriend was so so sweet and offered to pay for a replacement. Hes a sweetheart. But yeh, Im so unbelievably relieved.
