Where is good for a night away in Essex, Norfolk or Suffolk?

I am looking to book a night or two away in one of these county’s for my DH’s milestone birthday and thought I’d post on MN in case anybody has any suggestions.

Things we enjoy:

  1. Eating! Breakfast, lunch or dinner I would love to stay somewhere where we can eat at some nice places (too ‘posh’ isn’t really our scene though)
  2. Activities that would be safe for us to do (I am pregnant) .. like an escape room, boat trip, chocolate museum or something!

I would also love it if the accommodation was somewhat special.

No preference of where in these counties, but they are all within reasonable driving distance to us hence looking at these places.

Thank you if anybody has any tips or ideas on any of the above aspects!

I love Southwold and it definitely has lots of great food options

Southwold is nice, so is Brancaster, Wells in Norfolk. You can easily travel to Norwich from either, which has great shops, escape rooms and lovely places for brunch, especially in the Lanes. Best of both worlds.

You can't go wrong with Southwold. Norwich is a great place for somewhere bigger with plenty to do.

For a quieter place, maybe Lavenham, and stay at the Swan

Horsey Beach has seal pups this time of year, Nov / Dec, can just walk along above them. Boat trips Beans Boats do from Morston but will be weather dependent.

Southwold or Aldeburgh.

Another recommendation for Southwold from me. Lots to see, lovely places to eat; I can highly recommend Sutherland House .

Also The Harbour Inn (at the harbour) and nearby Walberswick has some great places to eat and is a lovely walk. There is a foot ferry but I suspect the season will be over shortly- which is a shame as the ferry lady is lovely too!

And you have Orford, Aldeburgh, Woodbridge, Snape Maltings all close by to visit
