Ideas to jazz up my porridge in the morning!!

Kate3150 · 27/10/2025 16:42

I’m getting a bit bored with my porridge at the moment.
I have jumbo oats with oat milk.
I’ve added all sorts of fruits to it over the years but got fed up of these too.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what I could add that I maybe hadn’t thought of?
Thank you 🙏🏼

Try sprinkling eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown, mushrooms, baked beans and fried bread on top. Delicious and the porridge makes it healthy.

Chopped nuts

Tamfs · 27/10/2025 16:46

I put a spoonful of peanut butter in mine.

Try cacao powder stirred in.

Coconut shavings.

frozen fruit instead of normal fruit.

Top tip you can actually cut calories by leaving out the porridge

I make mine with half milk and half water. A pinch of smoked Maldon sea salt is briliant, then I quite often add a teaspoon of Boursin and some Sriracha, as I don't have a sweet tooth.
I have also been known to make it with stock (home-made).
Lots of freshly ground black pepper is a must, too, as well as grated nutmeg.
There is no law that says porridge has to be sweet.

Spoonful of peanut butter abd make a quick fruit compote but cooking frozen mixed berries with some chia seeds and drop of water.

Grated apple, raisins, cinnamon

Frozen blueberries.

SwirlyShirly · 27/10/2025 16:51

Biscoff spread 🥰

Greybeardy · 27/10/2025 16:53

i'm currently topping mine with defrosted frozen raspberries (like the texture) and dark chocolate drops. Sometimes I use defrosted frozen cherries and put ground almonds in the porridge instead.

PerkyCyanPoet · 27/10/2025 16:53

Almond butter
Dried fruit
Maple syrup
Grated apple
Options hot chocolate powder (and a dollop of Nutella!!)

tryingtobesogood · 27/10/2025 16:53

I’ve bought fruit compote from M&S for mine along with some fresh raspberries. Sometimes I mix my oats with 0% Greek yogurt, and a banana and eat it cold.

Thank you for all the great suggestions.
Loving the peanut butter idea, will be buying some this week! X

Yoghurt
A tiny pinch of turmeric when cooking it.
Linwoods seed mixes (other brands are available)
Baileys at Christmas.

Indeed. The added protein will also mean it fills you up for the day. Perhaps that's the kind of porridge people mean when they say this, because the type with oats and milk does nothing for me except leaving me starving an hour later.

Don't do what I have done this week after the same scenario - I bought M&S Maple Syrup flavoured porridge sachets. I am not joking when I say its like eating gravel. It doesn't break down when cooked and now I'm stuck with getting through the rest of the box. Not quite sure how they have managed such a failure with it.

Don’t eat it. Put it out for the birds.

Mincemeat! It’s in all the supermarkets at the minute too
I have peanut butter and banana as well

BaronessBomburst · 27/10/2025 17:04

I really like porridge made with vegetable stock then topped with fresh coriander, sliced red chillies, and a fried egg. The egg yolk stirred into the oats is rich and unctuous. I've also been known to fry up garlic and ginger in the pan before adding the egg. Trust me, it's soooo good!

AtomicPumpkin · 27/10/2025 17:18

Single cream and black treacle.

Jellycatspyjamas · 27/10/2025 17:22

Nut butter with seeds and raspberries (frozen warmed through in the porridge itself). I also like walnuts with brown sugar and banana, or grated apple and cinnamon with a touch of maple syrup.

Sleepyandtiredandlazy · 27/10/2025 17:24

Why on earth do you need to " jazz it up"?

I make my portidge with water and add a handful of raisins and a sprinkling of cinnamon while cooking. And serve it with milk. And it's brilliant.
I have it every morning and it's great.

I also make a fruit and veg smoothie for breakfast to have before the porridge as it's my main meal of the day: squeezed orange and lemon, carrot, tomato, Kiwi fruit, strawberries, kale, chia seeds and almonds.

I love my breakfasts and don't understand the need to put so many additives into porridge when it is so tasty in it's own right.

pandora206 · 27/10/2025 17:26

Greek yoghurt, Linwoods Flaxseed Almonds Brazil & Q10 blend
a few chopped nuts, a handful of seeds, coconut sugar and a splash of milk.
The coconut sugar gives a lovely treacly taste....

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 27/10/2025 17:47

I watch someone on tik tok who adds banana, cinnamon and sweetener to hers then when it's heated up, puts warm berries, rice crispies, hazelnut butter and seeds/nuts on top. I've never tried it but it looks lovely.

Iamnotavicar · 27/10/2025 17:49

A spoonful of apricot jam and some grated root ginger.
