Ideas to jazz up my porridge in the morning!!

I’m getting a bit bored with my porridge at the moment.
I have jumbo oats with oat milk.
I’ve added all sorts of fruits to it over the years but got fed up of these too.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what I could add that I maybe hadn’t thought of?
Thank you 🙏🏼

I like banana and cinnamon. Or goji berries. Top tip: add a spoonful of natural Greek yoghurt for the creamiest porridge ever!

My late DF always ate his with brown sugar and a knob of butter.

If you try it with grated apple, put the apple in before you start heating it. It's delicious.

I make my porridge with oats, flax, chia, dessicated coconut, water and seasalt.

Cook, then add chopped banana and a full tub of biotful kefir quark.

Then I get well over 15g of fibre and over 30g protein and I don't want to chew my arm off by 10am which is what happens if I eat oats on their own.

I occasionally have my porridge with a dessert spoonful of pitted prunes (tinned) and a splash of the prune juice. Delicious, but not to be eaten every day. Overdo it, and the consequences can be... distressing, shall we say.

Try Oat Pantry porridge. They do amazing flavours: lemon drizzle, carrot cake, cherry bakewell, cinnamon bun.

Lostuser · 27/10/2025 20:17

oats made with water, mashed banana and sprinkled with mixed seeds

My daughter likes cinnamon, raisins and icing sugar

I love savoury porridge, like a previous poster I often have an egg on it. At the minute I’ve been having peas, peppers and mixing a bit of Korean chilli paste in.

A couple of my favourites:
Cinnamon, raisins, brown sugar

Blueberries, flaked almonds, honey

Peanut butter, seeds, banana, honey

100Otters · 27/10/2025 20:28

Apple and cinnamon or pear and ginger. Sprinkle some mixed seeds on top. I’ve been adding dates to mine as well mainly as a pregnancy thing but they do make it nice and sweet.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 27/10/2025 20:30

Honey, jam, golden syrup/maple syrup. Dried fruit, nuts, cinnamon.

DiscoBob · 27/10/2025 20:31

Maple syrup and pecans
Raisins and apricot jam
Peanut butter and banana and honey
Dates and walnuts
Hazelnut or pistachio creme
Tinned peaches and brown sugar

I add quinoa to my oats and it adds extra protein and nuttiness. I then cook some diced apple or pear in cinnamon on the stove and add that. Kiwi and coconut flakes also goes well.

Add anything with lysine because that’s the amino acid that limits the protein in oats - aforementioned quinoa is one option but also a variety of nuts and seeds.

My Grandson makes his own porridge every morning, his is topped with strawberries & blueberries, plus a sprinkling of bran flakes and granola! Fills him up ready for school.

prelovedusername · 27/10/2025 21:23

Golden syrup and salt. Also serve it on a plate so as it cools you can cut it.

MorningFresh · 27/10/2025 21:24

A spoonful of blueberry conserve.😋

honeyfox · 27/10/2025 21:27

Crunchy mixed seeds, runny peanut butter in a squeezy jar, brown sugar, frozen berries are all an option. I top mine with a dollop of natural yogurt and a spoonful of my homemade granola.

mumzof4x · 27/10/2025 21:36

I blend large organic porridge oats with soya milk / flax / chai / frozen berries / marine collagen powder/ and a strawberry benecol for a cholesterol lowering high protein heart healthy boost
Sounds pretty horrific but honestly it’s really nice !!

Wiiiiillmmaaa · 27/10/2025 21:37

Newest discovery in our house is Rosehip Syrup! Dh made some. It is SO healthy I had no idea how much so (well, possibly apart from the sugar). I reckon it would be great mixed in porridge...

PurBal · 27/10/2025 21:38

Cinnamon

cannyvalley · 27/10/2025 21:45

Apple puree (I bulk buy from health food shop) and cinnamon . Yum.

gingercat02 · 27/10/2025 21:54

Brown sugar and double cream is epic but sort of ruins the health benefits 🙃
I have any of the following: frozen berries, fresh in season, stewed apple or rhubarb, golden syrup or maple syrup
Porridge is 200mls milk and 40g oats, cooked on the porridge setting on the microwave
2 desserts spoons of mixed seeds
Dollop of kefir yoghurt

ConcordeSkyHigh · 27/10/2025 22:46

A wee dram of whisky 😂😂
