Ideas to jazz up my porridge in the morning!!

I’m getting a bit bored with my porridge at the moment.
I have jumbo oats with oat milk.
I’ve added all sorts of fruits to it over the years but got fed up of these too.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what I could add that I maybe hadn’t thought of?
Thank you 🙏🏼

A pinch of salt while cooking. Toasted pumpkin seeds and walnuts on top. Dollop of Greek yoghurt. I find porridge is improved with a bit of crunch and texture and the nuts and yoghurt add protein.

Chopped kiwi fruit, kefir and tahini.

I like overnight oats made with Greek yoghurt, a shot of espresso and mixed chopped nuts and seeds.

Try sprinkling eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown, mushrooms, baked beans and fried bread on top. Delicious and the porridge makes it healthy.

😂

You can get peanut butter powder. It has all the taste of peanut butter without the calories. I cook mine in milk, and mash a banana into it while it's cooking. I add a bit of peanut butter when I take it off the stove and pour it over a chopped apple

I'm terrible for a huge scoop of Nutella in it

A spoon of chopped stem ginger in its syrup on top?

Very warming and ginger is so good for you.

SoManyTshirts · 06/11/2025 08:41

Nutmeg or cinnamon, any dried fruit or nuts.
Alternatively- butter.

I foraged tons of cherry plums about six weeks ago. I froze them, and last weekend I took a batch of about a kg, simmered them until soft with a scraped out vanilla pod and a cinnamon stick, with some golden sugar added for a little sweetness. I’m keep them in a Kilner jar in the fridge and I had a massive spoonful of it on my porridge this morning.

Mincemeat! It’s in all the supermarkets at the minute too
I have peanut butter and banana as well

God yes it’s delicious with mincemeat. I like cold custard on hot porridge too

Thank you for all the great suggestions.
Loving the peanut butter idea, will be buying some this week! X

You might also like peanut butter on toast with sliced banana on top. Just mentioning it if you don’t usually have peanut butter in your house

Mumneedstea · 06/11/2025 08:57

My kids add in a spoonful of almond powder, another of crunchy peanut butter and then a mixture of flaxseeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and goji berries (the Linwoods pre mixed pack). This is then topped up with whatever fruit is available - blueberries, frozen mango etc

Chopped apple goes nicely with raisins and cinnamon, & feels kinda warming at this time of year.
Pineapple (either frozen chunks or dried are fine in place of fresh) with coconut (desicated or the dried flakes) for that tropical feel!
I get bags of frozen fruit to keep in the freezer so there’s always something on hand to bung in the porridge.
If you want to be super healthy, stir in chia seeds for added protein. Cacao nibs perk me up too.

I like cinnamon and peanut or almond butter
