What’s your worst part of adulting?

Mine is having to come up with meal ideas, I hate it! Having to think of what to eat/cook every single day until you die 😂

Trying to get a GP appointment

BarbaraVineFan · 27/10/2025 23:02

For me, it’s just constantly having stuff to do. Never being able to fully relax, because you know you should be doing the waking up, planning or cooking the next meal, working, tending to a child, sorting a cupboard. There’s never a feeling that everything is done and you have nothing, no responsibilities or worries or chores.

Alignedplanks98 · 27/10/2025 23:08

Shame we can’t instigate a chore swap! I quite like meal planning and laundry! Back in the day, I’d offer those in exchange for school runs any time!

8lue8ird · 27/10/2025 23:28

Having to remember exactly where and when I left my phone in a specific place/country/hemisphere. Not as easy as it sounds.

Making dinner every bloody day

Yep!! Hate it.

ChattyGeePeaTea · 27/10/2025 23:33

I love meal planning and cooking, but I have a horror of anything to do with money - budgeting, bills, insurance, mortgage payments, hate it hate it hate it and if I could just lie on the floor and refuse I would absolutely do that.

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 27/10/2025 23:45

Sodding adult kids who I adore obvs - but still lurking at home, not taking advantage of the fact they are all on great salaries only paying 300 quid keep a month and all should have whacking house deposits saved while still living the life but sadly not …

They will learn the hard way as we are selling and downsizing in two years the silly sods- they can’t say weren’t warned, up to then, but drives me bloody potty seeing the crazy money they earn slip through the fingers with nothing to show for it!!
I was chatting with my sister earlier remembering the rancid shared houses I lived in from 17/18 scrabbling about to pay the rent and going without food or leccie to go out or see a concert at the weekend and then to store up over 18 months for a block of 10 driving lessons lol

Sex - obvs lovely part of a long term relationship /healthy marriage as an adult. Yadder, Yadder…
But
i think I preferred it before proper adulting , ad hoc, spontaneous and on my terms before I got married and settled down

Don’t feel the meal planning hate tho funnily enough -totally get it tho of course!
one of my life’s joys has been cooking and feeding my family. Actually a freak who enjoys planning dinners ahead and shopping, prepping and cooking them.
I just want them all to fuck off so I can just do it at the weekends when they visit lol!!!

The worst part of adulting is pretending to be an adult, and dealing with other adults (who I often don't like) as part of the everyday function of the world of work and life responsibilities. I want to reclaim the 8 year old me who watched Take Hart in BBC 1 before spending hours drawing (without a care in the world).

Mine is having to arrange house repairs and the maintenance e.g. painting gardening.

OMG yes.

I am happy to cook and clean. I do a professional job and have been a solo parent for much of my DC’s life.

But arranging a plumber, builder, etc? It fills me with dread!

It’s funny isn’t it. My DM loved ironing and moaned about cooking. I’m the opposite

cheeseandbranston · 28/10/2025 06:41

Ring responsible for a massive mortgage and having a job that is really, really hard.

sammylady37 · 28/10/2025 07:00

Unclogging the shower drain. It involves getting a screwdriver to unscrew the metal grille bit, then popping up another bit and then pulling all the hair out and cleaning gunk out. I hate it.

God yes! The bloody screwdriver part, why??????

Oh yes, this too. My 20yr old DS has a lovely girlfriend who stays over 4 or 5 nights a week. She has lovely long hair…which clogs the shower drain 😂

also, the toilet seat keeps working loose and apparently it’s only me that fixes it 🙄

For any of you with young adult DC who like fake tan; how’s your white loo seat looking??? 😠

@landlordhell never realised that was a problem, eek. Will hopefully have goth children who are anti-tanning

Yep. It doesn’t come off easily either, even with bleach. Weird because it comes off bedsheets easily.

WonderingWanda · 28/10/2025 15:40

I can't narrow it down to just one thing.

I hate having to stop for petrol with a passion and would happily pay more to be able to just pull up and someone else stand in the wind and sideways rain putting the fuel in.

Also hate chasing dinner, sorting socks, emptying bins and laundry baskets only for them to be instantly full again.

I think I hate being an adult. Why oh why did it seem so appealing when I was 15?

VanilleFraise · 28/10/2025 18:55

Being a parent to my elderly remaining parent.

shhblackbag · 28/10/2025 19:54

Relatable.

Another thing I hate is changing the bedding. Love my superking any other day...

HappiestSleeping · 28/10/2025 20:02

Finding myself holding my wife's hand as she died. Suddenly everything else seems a good deal less significant (although I too understand about the super king duvet cover)

Emptying and reloading the dishwasher… omgggggg
