Making Thai beef curry tomorrow & I have some fish sauce in the fridge which expired end of Sep 2025 ( well it says best before). Would it be better to buy new or shall I use what I have?

It’ll be fine

I’d use it, no problem

I've used condiments that are several years out of date and not died. Fish sauce will be absolutely fine. The fish is fermented in salt for up to two years to make it, I doubt a month is going to be the end of it.

Fish sauce never needs throwing out. It’s the cockroach of the food world.

The fish sauce I finally used up a couple of months ago was 4 years out of date 😳 Was kept in the fridge all that time though

In my experience it never goes off. It smells bad when you open a fresh bottle and that doesn't change. It probably tastes terrible on its own too.

In the past I've bought big bottles from the Chinese supermarket and it takes years to get through but doesn't change so doesn't need throwing away just keep using it.

Thanks everyone. Will look forward to the curry tonight!
