Grooming gang enquiry - has the government failed at a white wash?

So the brave survivors of grooming gangs willing to participate in an enquiry have demanded change of enquiry members. I think this is quite right as the appointment of establishment figures in social work and police would work with an agenda of diluting the enquiry into generalised child abuse and lose all focus on the gangs themselves.

The government I feel are separate to not allow ethnicity , culture or religion into this enquiry but the survivors have seen this coming and have been again willing to speak out. The survivors want an enquiry specifically about Muslim men of Pakistani origin groping gangs as should be the case.

Jess Phillips should consider her position at this back handed attempt at a stitch up.

Where do you get this from? I can't see any reference to it in their letter to the Home Secretary (it's on the Guardian website).

The labour govt and many on the left want us all to believe that every immigrant is a wondaful person and a benefit to society.
Unfortunately many cultures have a total disrespect women.

Pakistani grooming gangs are the issue for the enquiry. That’s what they need to look at. But Labour don’t want to lose votes in those regions. And here we are. Misogynistic power hungry fckers.

‘Indeed, Casey says that grooming gangs are still operating. And as the inquiry gets underway, officials are bound to obfuscate the true extent of the cover-up — because the truth will be too damaging to contemplate.’

Having been involved in similar projects, I am not sure that I see a way forward with this. The survivors are incredibly brave but I don't know that it can work if they have this degree of control over the entire process. But I understand why they feel they need it. A degree of compromise is going to be necessary though because these processes cannot be perfect.

Any enquiry chair will be under such scrutiny that I am not convinced anyone will want to take the role.

The racist modus operandi of the gangs must be part of the inquiry. I can totally understand why the victims are concerned.

Jess Phillips is a narcissistic self publicist who only cares about herself. What does she actually do?

Other than shout and scream in the commons. She’s more interested in talking about herself, how she’s being wronged by everyone, how she’s upset, his she feels about everything. It’s all about her. Not about the survivors.

And all these fawning platitudes about her being some amazing advocate for women just doesn’t wash. She’s too busy promoting herself and saving her seat.

Remember when she compared the NYE sexual assaults in Cologne to a night out in Birmingham.

Disgusting woman.

It is essential that there is an enquiry focussed entirely on the Pakistani Child Rape Gangs. Just that. Nothing else. The victims deserve it and so do we the public. Phillips is doing everything she can to take the focus of that particular kind of child sexual abuse. Why? In my opinion a true investigation that digs deeply into the dirt will reveal enough participation or purposeful ignorance by so many Labour councillors/politicians, social workers, police that it would bring the Labour Party and associated local authorities to their knees and possibly cause widespread civil unrest. If they can just keep sliding to either side of the actual remit and keep kicking the can down the road for a few more decades then people will die off, historical evidence and victim experiences will become increasingly flimsy and public strength of feeling will diminish. Absolutely disgusting and Jess Phillips is unfit to hold any position of responsibility within government let alone one supposedly protecting women & girls.

Strange that 5 of the survivors involved in the enquiry have said that they will ONLY stay if Jess Philips stays then, isn't it?

I am reading that while they are sadly victims of CSA they are not all victims of the Pakistani Child Rape Gangs. Some are also saying they were placed on the panel by Jess Phillips for just this reason - to obfuscate the outcomes. I also read a post from the father of one of them who says his daughter does not endorse Jess Phillips and claims that she does are not true.

The whole thing is just a huge mess and if Jess Phillips had any integrity she’d resign from it immediately.

🚨 The @guardian and @BBCPolitics have endangered my daughter by falsely claiming that Scarlett endorses Jess Phillips. This is clearly Labour propaganda, which has now put my daughter at risk, as she faces threats and abuse. Labour is vile and disgust...

The whole thing is yet another national disgrace.

I dont know how we have got to a situation where we are willing to sell our young people down the river to appease the left wing voices in the UK.

mids2019 · 24/10/2025 06:44

The women are not going to put themselves through this gruelling experience for a conclusion of the self evident CSA is abhorrent. I am sure the women's want to focus on Muslim Pakistani grooming gangs and want to give evidence that this particular demographic have been allowed to commit horrendous crimes with limited scrutiny due to biases and agendas of local politicians, police, and social services.

we don't want a chair suddenly telling the women please do give evidence but do not mention race or religion which I am sure Jess Phillips wants with a Birmingham consitituency with a high proportion of Muslims. I am sure that some will want the enquiry filled with figures that will say 'white people commit CSA as well 'which would be a disaster.

It's not strange at all, once you understand that those 5 women are survivors of other types of CSE, not grooming gangs, and therefore they sort the widening of the remit of this inquiry so it doesn't only focus on grooming gangs. And that's exactly why they were put there.
