AuDHD question

I understand this is a term used to describe a dual diagnosis but isn't the 'attention' part of the 'attention deficit' description pretty important? How can it be replaced with Aurism? Autism Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder? The label doesn't make sense!
Why not AADHD? or ADAHD?

I'm not sure why this is in the christmas section but audhd isn't an official diagnostic term. It's a portmanteau some people on the Internet started using because they felt like it.
I agree it doesn't make much sense but it's quicker than saying "I'm autistic and I have adhd", I suppose.

Surely it's just a portmanteau?

Foxyloxy89 · 21/10/2025 22:00

Haha I'm not sure why it's in the Christmas section either!!!!

I keep seeing the term used more and it annoys me as it doesn't make sense!

A bit like when my friend had a daughter she named Esmee but wanted it pronounced Esmae. My tiny brain just couldn't get over it!'

I have never heard of a Portmanteau and am now going to have to look that up!

I hadn't either and had to google it!

OP I am with you. It annoys me.

(I've reported your post and asked it to be moved to chat, where you'll get more replies- I suggest you do the same!)

AuDHD is simply Autism+ADHD. It makes common sense really and I don't see why it would be a problem. It just makes things a bit easier than saying both all the time especially when you often talk about it in ND groups and such.

It's not a diagnosis on its own nor is it mandatory to use. It also doesn't mean Autism has taken over or "Autism Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder".

I guess whomever came up with it thought it better than ADHDism or ADHAut. I dont know...AuDHD flows better as shorthand for both. If anything, Autism rarely gets a mention there because the u is the only letter specific to Autism. It's full on A+DHD. Luckily, they both start with A.
