How long would 50k last you

Inspired by another thread

Assuming your household lost all income and savings tomorrow, but you were handed 50k to live on. Just for bills/ mortgage/ debts/ food and daily spending

If I lived comfortably I could get a year out of it,
with some scrimping and saving 18 months

Based on current outgoings (which we’re trying hard to reduce, 9 months max.

stillavid · 22/10/2025 06:18

Not very long at all at the moment due to expensive school and university fees. So as another poster said - around 2 -3 months.

Autumvibes · 22/10/2025 06:29

Five months if we lost all savings and income.

8 months of if I didn’t change my spending habits. A year if I cut out the non necessities

FortressOfTea · 22/10/2025 07:03

18 months, if careful.

50k used to be such a huge sum of money. Obviously it’s still a lot of money I don’t mean to say it isn’t at all, but this shows the cost of living crisis for so many

Less than 4 months at current run rate.

AlphabetBird · 22/10/2025 07:30

If we had no other income about 2 maybe 2.5 years but that would be with pretty deep cuts. To keep everything as is about 14 -16 months.

Boeufsurletoit · 22/10/2025 07:32

18 months of living at our current standard. We could eke it out longer with some scrimping.

thecatneuterer · 22/10/2025 08:35

No mortgage, rent, children or partner - so in theory quite a while. But I spend £25K a year on cats - so maybe 16 months.
