Aberfan. 59 years.

The Aberfan disaster was 59 years ago today.

I have seen any other threads about it, but it is a deeply sad memory of my childhood. My headteacher was from Aberfan and wept through a special assembly.

RIP all those children and teachers. You are not forgotten.

I am not from the UK and first heard about it I expect on the 50th anniversary. It's seared in my brain- the desperate tragedy and sadness.

I can't imagine what those poor families went through.

I was the same age as the children. We were also practicing for Harvest Festival that morning. We had a special assembly, the teachers cried and we got sent home. It was beyond awful, those poor mums trying to get to their children...
