Home alone - what would you have for tea?

I could have leftovers (lamb meatballs and macaroni cheese) .... but they aren't calling to me.

Any suggestions - what would you have? (no allergies - no dislikes apart from liver).

🙄

I agree. What delicious dinner would you make just for yourself? ‘Gruel and fruit’ 😂

Echobelly · 21/10/2025 19:14

Macaroni cheese if we have the right cheese.... DH generally finds it too heavy and doesn't want it so I take my opportunities when I can.

Karatema · 21/10/2025 19:17

Last night I had B&J Phishfood and tonight yoghurt and blueberries. DH and I had lunch and he was out straight after work.

Probably a fish finger sandwich with oven chips and saucy sauce.

stample · 21/10/2025 21:47

Ploughman’s cheeseboard but with rolled up ham with horseradish in! Don’t forget the pickled onions either!

stample · 21/10/2025 21:48

Or a whole baked Brie with crusty bread (if I wasn’t on a diet)
recently tried baby bells dipped in egg and rolled in breadcrumbs, pop in air fryer for 15 mins - healthy and delish

LittleMonks11 · 21/10/2025 21:49

Something involving toast

TwistyTurnip · 21/10/2025 21:52

Yellow fin tuna steak with asparagus and fine green beans (cooked in butter) with new potatoes, hollandaise sauce, and a cheeky glass of white wine.

StokePotteries · 21/10/2025 21:55

Pasta with a very garlicky, chilli-hot tomato sauce with parsley and basil and toasted pine nuts. And steamed broccoli with lemon zest. And wall to wall trashy US drama like Law and Order or Lincoln Lawyer.

Whereas a rich granola, thick Greek yoghurt, honey and berries would be my last dinner!

oven baked mushroom risotto it was. DH doesn’t get risotto. Some great ideas on here for tomorrow!

I also have a DH who doesn’t get risotto! For future ideas - I make my risotto in the microwave- use frozen onions and frozen Mediterranean veg from Sainsbury’s. So easy and delicious with grated Parmesan on top.

My go to tea when I’m home alone is a fish finger (grilled with melted cheese on top) sandwich with tartare sauce and salad leaves.

Cheese with fish fingers? Need to try that.

gemdrop84 · 22/10/2025 07:32

Last time I was home alone I got some pate and had sourdough toast, stood in the kitchen with a nice cup of tea. It was bliss!

Thanks for that. I'll try it. It was the first time I'd tried oven baking it and it worked really well. (Not as lovely as a risotto in a restaurant - but my stove top one never is either).

I'll often have a fish finger wrap with cheese, sour cream, salsa, jalapenos and some shredded red or white cabbage. The cheese is nice with it.

By myself - baked beans, toast and a fried egg. Cheap and simple. My family don’t much like baked beans so it’s a little treat for me.

Pinkwaffles2023 · 22/10/2025 09:57

Beans on toast or coco pops. Or a massive bar of chocolate 😆

Sadcafe · 22/10/2025 09:57

An egg salad sandwich on crusty bread, or jacket potato with salad and cheese

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/10/2025 09:59

My DP doesn’t eat fish so when he’s away I always get the M&S “Gastropub” fish and chips as a treat. They used to do a really nice smoked haddock and potato thing, which I would top with a poached egg but I haven’t seen that in ages. The cat was a big fan of that too!

I use the M&S posh mash and stir cheese and grainy mustard through it and poach haddock in milk in the oven and put a poached egg on top and do a bag of spinach in the microwave. Very easy tea - not DHs favourite but he'll eat it.
