Romance Scammer -- Warning!

ThunderThighs123 · 19/10/2025 11:10

If you're online dating, please read this article about a convicted romance fraudster, who is currently active in the UK. He was convicted in 2022, and jailed for 12 years, but is somehow able to create online dating profiles, and make voice and video calls. If you are in touch with him, please read this and report him.

I read as much as I could with all the moving/flashing adverts etc, but I couldn't see where it says he's still creating online dating profiles and making video calls etc?

Either way, no-one should be giving money to anyone online regardless of the situation.

I'm speaking from very recent personal experience...

Surely no one would give anyone they don’t really know money. Ye gods.

Thankfully, I didn't, but several women did, apparently. ITV has made a documentary about this case.

Oh dear.

I hope the police and prison are taking it seriously?

I've reported it. Just putting it out online as well, to try to get the word out. Please pass it on if you know other lonely women looking for love...I thought I was impervious to such flattery...Am obviously a sucker!

How did you work out it was the guy in the story from 3 years ago?

EmeraldRoulette · 19/10/2025 11:41

I'm not even going to try and read the article, ads etc cause issues on my iPad

What was the scam?

If people are just handing money over to strangers, I get quite annoyed when police and banks get involved with this. If an adult with full mental capacity chooses to hand over money, without any intimidation or threat being at play, it shouldn't really be anyone else's business.

Is this yet another case where there's no intimidation or threat? Just people voluntarily handing over money?

Reverse image search brought up this article and related court documents. Thank goodness for the internet!

It was the grooming stage. No requests for money by this point, thank goodness.
It is far more insidious and effective than you can imagine. Need to experience it to really understand. That's why I want to get the word out to help other unsuspecting women.

The police will have removed his dating profiles by now and the prison will have taken his phone off him, while they investigate.

Well I expect so anyway.

Therefore I'm not sure this public thread is a good idea as it could affect the investigation and any further proceedings.

One would hope so. However, he's been in touch very recently, so I doubt it.

Unless I'm much mistaken, they don't get access to the internet in prison so I doubt it's him. It is probably another scammer who has decided to steal his identity and carry on where he left off.

intrepidpanda · 19/10/2025 11:53

Feeding people's greed, has 250k to spare but still looking for more,
Yes I get that she is the victim and he is the perpetrator but perpetrators need this greed in society to run their business.

Even more reason to get the thread deleted as that's something else that'll be investigated.

I'd just hate for this to be a reason why he might get away with it, rather than having time added onto his sentence.

I'd agree this is a far more plausible scenario.

It’s crazy what people fall for. I was watching something last night where the lady sold her home and gave him the money! 😳
