Ive badly broken my arm. A spiral fracture in my humerous.
I'm cant work out how to get my bra or tshirt off and fresh on. It's been 48hours and my bra is making me itch 😬

You're going to need to get front fastening bras I'm afraid. Voice of bitter experience.

Can you reach up with your other arm to unfasten it at the back. With the tee-shirt get your good arm through the hole and pull it over your bad arm. Use a front fastening bra. Is your arm in a brace or cast.

My arms in a brace but I'll find out next week what's happening at fracture clinic. Front fastening bras im on it thank you

You may need to cut yourself out with a pair or scissors if you can’t find a person to unhook your bra.

Shedmistress · 18/10/2025 19:44

I'd not have put one on in the first place. But yes cut it off or get someone to unlock the bastard clasp for you.

MissMoneyFairy · 18/10/2025 21:00

Don't bother with a bra unless you really need one. You might find a vest with built in support more comfortable.

tatyr · 18/10/2025 21:20

To take your t shirt off, reach your good hand to the back of your neck, grab the t-shirt and pull it forwards over your head. Then either take your good arm out first, or use your good hand to bring the t shirt down around your injured side shoulder and down off your arm. It might be easier to do this with a pillow on your lap to rest your injured arm on, so it doesn't get pulled into any painful positions.

To put your t shirt on, lay the t shirt on your lap, front side down. Gather up the body and arm hole to get the injured arm through first, pull the t shirt up the arm as high as you can. Next get your good arm through the arm hole. Gather the back of the t shirt in your good hand, from bottom to neck, and lift it up and over your head. Push the material back over your injured shoulder and pull down the body.
Again, a pillow to rest your injured arm on can help. Baggy t shirts or jumpers will be easier, or even a vest.
Bras are a bugger, Sainsbury's do nice soft zip front if the sizing suits you.

Either vest with built in support (Uniqlo have loads) pulled on from the bottom or DH.

tatyr · 18/10/2025 21:24

If the brace is on over your clothes, you might need to summon assistance from someone to un brace you to wash/change. Please don't feel bad if you need to ask for help, I'd do it for my friend!

LIZS · 18/10/2025 22:10

Bra using one strap only, one you can detach and refasten, or pull on crop top or vest with support.

Mischance · 18/10/2025 22:18

I have similar problems because I have a pacemaker and can't lift my arm normally. I wriggle my arm out on the good side and then pull over head and run it down the arm on the bad side. I buy more loose fitting tops top make the procedure easier. I do have some front fastening bras but only bother with them if I am wearing a T-shirt - if it is a jumper I go native.

delilabell · 19/10/2025 01:17

Go native 🤣
Got dh to cut my bra off and yes think im going to keep it off for a while.
I've also ordered some vests (no support) and im going to wear them with cardigan over the top I think

So sorry to hear you broke your humerus. This was me 10 years ago. There is a facebook group set up called Humerus Fracture Support which I recommend you join. I’m still on there and comment occasionally. I was invited to join after I healed.
On the bra front, I bought some sleep bras that just pulled over my head. Still needed some help from DH for a few weeks.

delilabell · 25/10/2025 12:35

Update just incase anyone's interested. .🤣
Ive bought lounge bras that I only wear on my good shoulder but still scoops both boobs in. My boobs are huge so this is a necessity 🤣.
I've bought lots of vests in larger sizes abd have cut the seam at the top of the bad arm abd velcroed it so I can wear it up at the top rather than shoved as high up as possible.
7 weeks to go 😬
