Is the whole home buying/selling process normally this stressful?

I don’t remember it being quite so bad last time but that’s probably my faulty memory when we last bought/sold about a decade ago.

It’s only been a few months but it’s breaking me. It’s been 2 weeks since our buyers had their valuation survey and we still haven’t heard. I’m a mess not knowing if we’re moving or not and anxious that nothing will happen.

I’m autistic and appreciate that it’s stressful for everyone but I really struggle with not knowing when things will happen, even the small things.

Is anyone else finding it incredibly stressful? The whole process seems unnecessarily convoluted and drawn out.

TIA

Yanbu its an awful process. It'll be worth it in the end though!

Ty. I hope so.

I’ve been dreaming about it constantly and I spend half the night or more stressing over it. Ican’t seem to switch off. I’m beginning to regret having started the whole process.

Yes. It was even stressful when we sold and moved to rented to break the chain. I'm staying put now solely because I can't face it again. I'd only move if I 110 percent had to.

Yep it’s always stressful, I think we tend to naturally block out all the awfulness of the process once we’re through it.

I’ve moved loads. There is no “normally”. What I’ve discovered is, how stressful it is is directly linked to what’s going on in my life. For example, when we were getting married, the house move we planned for the same time was very stressful. When we were trying to move to improve the situation for our daughter, it was very stressful. Other moves where it was just about moving to a new house, it wasn’t stressful at all.

Like you, we last moved ten years previously to the move we made last year. I thought it was difficult enough in 2014, but last year was a whole other level and there were only three houses in the chain.

It does appear that everything takes much longer, is more convoluted and more stressful.

Thanks all. It makes me feel a little better that this is normal. I honestly feel like I’m about to have a nervous breakdown but knowing it’s normal to be so stressful and prolonged helps. It is such a frustrating process though and I find it hard to believe that there aren’t ways to make it go quicker and more smoothly.

I’m sorry and I don’t blame you.

I had/have plans for the future that would involve at least one more move to another part of the country but I genuinely don’t think that I could bear the stress again.

That makes sense though there isn’t that much else going on now though we did have a leak which wasn’t fun. But that’s repaired now. I think that the short time frame and the builder putting pressure on us doesn’t help.
