Nits - it’s a bit weird

My daughter is in secondary school and never had nits in primary but has had them a few times at secondary. They are hard to spot until her hair is wet as she is blonde so they are hard to see.

The weird thing is they are in the ‘wrong’ places every time. Never near the root of the hair or by the ears/nape of the neck. Always quite far along the shaft and on the top layers of her hair. Nor have I ever seen a live louse (not even a dead one after treating and combing). They must be nits though as they are stuck to the shaft of her hair (come away with combing or actually more easily with my nails).

it’s weird and I am second guessing whether they are but even though I know they must be. It’s a right pain in the arse as she has very long hair. It’s very fine but she has a shedload of it - combing and treating is a nightmare. Just reordered Hedrin treatment plus the prevent spray.

Just idly wondering if anyone else has seen nits present this way?

If they are along the hair shaft then they are old rather than new egg cases. If they are white they are hatched and if they are brownish they have lice in them.

Or might be something else rather than lice/nits

So you haven't seen any lice but you've seen eggs? Have you actually seen any headline and had a look at them? Fjdure quite distinctive little things!

If you haven't seen any live lice, the nits are the empty or dead eggs that were originally laid close to the scalp and appear further down due to hair growth.

I have considered they might be old and so not treating but feels a bit irresponsible, just in case. Also still not sure how I have never managed to see live lice as I comb her hair after she washes it still and if we’d not got them out then surely she’d be infested?

Still confused but appreciate your thoughts!

Lots of conditioner and a nitty gritty comb is all you need. Every other day. Keep hair tied up as much as possible too

They will dodge the comb. For my kids I do a weekly check so cheap conditioner with a bit of hot water shaken through to take chill off. Straight on dry hair for a comb through. Any lice ard obvious as confiionwr is white.
