Vapes - which one is the least bad?

babylone · 17/10/2025 15:40

My troubled DS (15) keeps picking up vapes and cigarettes butts on the streets. This is an ongoing battle i am having.
i have decided i am going to buy him a vape and he said he will stop picking up used vapes and half smoked cigarettes off the streets… 😩
(he is under cahms so he is getting support)

i do not know a thing about vapes. What to avoid, what to recommend, what is the “least bad”?

thank you

Is there a least bad? I thought they were all bad.

BertieBotts · 17/10/2025 16:00

They aren't very well regulated so they are probably all just as bad as another, but one you know the history of is certainly safer than one he's picked up off the street where the original user could have all kinds of health issues.

They can have dodgy batteries which have been linked to house fires, so if you get a rechargeable one, I would probably stick to a brand which can be bought in a brick and mortar store or on a website specifically for vapes rather than general amazon. And maybe have a rule of charging it in the kitchen during the daytime rather than in his bedroom, or if he insists on charging it in his bedroom, fit a smoke alarm - vaping doesn't produce as thick smoke as cigarettes, so shouldn't set the alarm off if he opens the window.

Well like with everything there must be a least bad? But i agree in that there will be a negative health impact.
maybe some are “lighter”? Like malboro lights back in the days? Maybe theres different quality? I have no idea hence my question

Actually it sounds like there is some regulation in the UK so I would follow this advice (from NHS site)

Always buy your vaping products from a reputable supplier like a specialist vape shop, pharmacy, supermarket or a UK-based online retailer so they are covered by UK safety and quality regulations.

You can get different strengths of nicotine - so you could choose a "vape juice" with less nicotine.

HandsomeJack · 17/10/2025 16:04

Buying a mod vape with a tank you fill yourself gives you the option of buying lower/zero nicotine juices.
This is probably your best option. They come in builds easy enough online at vape sites

babylone · 17/10/2025 16:07

@HandsomeJack just a question on this actually. Is there a risk he could add something to the vape juice then if it is refillable? Because then id want to avoid this as well - just in case

Get nicotine free ones if you can. I used one of those for a while when I quit smoking just to help with the idle hands habit. No sense giving him a nicotine addiction if you can avoid it.

OSLisa · 04/12/2025 12:03

I tried switching to liquids with full spectrum cbd distillate bulk and found it way smoother on my throat than the regular nicotine ones. I'm not into big clouds or anything fancy, just wanted something that didn’t make me feel groggy after. Got mine online in a batch that lasted ages, you just need a basic refillable vape.

Cigarettes are better for you than vapes

This isn't true and it's a really shitty lie to spread.
