What’s really interesting though is the scores for the words - 999 is only 47.37. And it’s only two letters different from the target word.

It’s about the kind of word it is. It’s got several disparate meanings so there aren’t close synonyms that cover all the things the word encompasses. You couldn’t replace TARGET with 999 in a sentence without changing the meaning of the sentence, even though the words have the same root.

I can’t get it and I don’t have the word that helps the clue :(
