Kpop at primary schools

tuktok · 15/10/2025 14:10

Why is Kpop being given so much importance at schools all of a sudden? DD1 comes home daily singing some or the other kpop songs I ask her where she learnt them? She says Kpop is played at school on full volume during lunch hour and before home time. Also my friend recently told me the school her DD goes to had a whole discussion about Kpop (where the come from, what is it basically). My other friend who works at an after school club, told me that they have been told to play Kpop on the tv daily to the kids. Why this sudden Kpop promotion at schools?.

PS: English is not my first language. Apologies in advance for any mistakes

I don't think it's Kpop promotion as much as schools trying to use things kids are interested in to motivate them, interest them and make the day more pleasant. They're leaning in to the kids interests.

Ballfish · 15/10/2025 14:13

School often use things from popular culture to engage children. Currently, it's this.

tuktok · 15/10/2025 14:13

@NuffSaidSamHmm. Might be Kpop is the thing now. I feel so old not knowing much about it😂

Surely you haven’t missed Kpop demon hunters on Netflix? It’s massive at the moment for primary age kids. DD says they all request the songs on the school bus on the way to matches and swimming lessons. And apparently the class teacher puts it on sometimes when they have a ‘brain break dance party’ (whatever that is).

NikkiPotnick · 15/10/2025 14:18

At ours they've apparently been singing it on the playground!

Darragon · 15/10/2025 14:44

25 years ago it was rap music. We even had a rap in the school christmas play which was seen as so edgy by all of us at the time. Our parents didn’t mind, they knew it was just the latest thing to get us writing and singing. We’ve been long overdue another musical paradigm shift tbh.

Ponderingwindow · 15/10/2025 14:47

Go watch “Kpop Demon Hunters”
it’s this generation’s Frozen and surprisingly enjoyable.

A brain break dance party is a few minutes away from the desk to have fun. It literally gives their brain a break, which means they're able to learn better after

It's a conspiracy. Korea are trying to brainwash the kids.

Kids like K-Pop. It's just the latest trend.

Gaminggeek · 15/10/2025 19:08

You’ll probably find it’s because all the kids are into it and especially the recent film K Pop Demon Hunters so they are using it to their advantage for teachable moments especially with culture and other countries which I think is an excellent way to keep the children engaged.

MILLYmo0se · 15/10/2025 19:11

13 years or so ago it was Frozen all day long......

hellowhaaat3632 · 15/10/2025 19:16

The annoying thing is my son liked it when he saw it but now it’s everywhere it’s put him off somewhat

Dollymylove · 15/10/2025 19:27

Its the latest craze. My 5 year old granddaughter loves it.
Won't be too long before the next craze comes along 🤣

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 15/10/2025 19:47

It's definitely kpop demon hunters, all the primary aged kids seem to love it, and the music has been in the charts and on the radio loads so even a tragic old person like me has learnt the lyrics. My daughter loves it and all the songs. It hasn't been played at/by her school though. Your school will be doing it to appeal to the kids and as a reward or as some kind of motivation thing. I wouldn't worry about it!

ComfortFoodCafe · 15/10/2025 19:50

Its normal my sons school allow the kids to pick the music played on the speakers during break & lunch and its always K Pop demon hunters atm 😂

MumChp · 15/10/2025 19:55

Next month it's something new.

Usernamenotav · 15/10/2025 19:58

Because of K pop demon hunters film on netflix

NotTonightDeidre · 15/10/2025 20:02

I'd heard the song Golden on Radio 2 before Kpop Demon Hunters (the film) had even hit my radar! It's literally everywhere right now.

Oh my, I cannot cope with another second of let it go… demon hunters soundtrack though? On repeat

SleepingStandingUp · 15/10/2025 22:23

Feel for me. My 5 year olds are obsessed with Frozen and all three kids with Demon Hunters.

We're going up up up and letting it go simultaneously

Dontlletmedownbruce · 15/10/2025 23:30

I work in a preschool and I play Golden or Soda pop most days! Definitely not promoting it, the kids love the songs and I play what they enjoy when we are doing dancing time. I made a playlist asking every child for their favourite song and sometimes play that too, but at the moment these songs particularly Golden are most popular. Also Chicken Banana. We are are grateful for the break from Pink pony club and APT to be honest.

As others have said - the film carries a nice message too. Worth a watch.

FeedingPidgeons · 16/10/2025 09:06

But are you ready for the takedown?

Sorry 😆

I have been brainwashed. It's a nice change from Elsa.

My least favorite bit was Mira kicking out at her parents. It might make sense in her case but there’s far too much anti-family stuff in kids shows these days. It says a lot more about the constrictive upbringing of the writers rather than the gentle parenting young kids get these days

StandFirm · 19/10/2025 19:44

Have to say, This Is What It Sounds Like has proper depth to it.
